A year ago on this day, I uploaded the first page of a comic done in a program I was still getting used to. I just wanted to draw a comic, and indulge myself in my hyperfixation on Pokemon Sword at the time.
Never could I ever, in my wildest dreams, imagine what would come of this comic - of how much I've learned, and the community I've gotten the privilege of being a part of. I've met so many artists and amazing people and friends, and I'm so grateful for everyone who reads this comic!! I'm so so grateful to get the chance to share this story with the world, and I hope to continue to do so. Happy one year to By the Sword!

FIRST GYM BATTLE gosh gosh gosh I am so nervous. I was shaking uploading this because I felt like I had a lot to live up to - the first. gym battle, the first year anniversary page, and its been over a month since my last upload. I dunno if I lived up to the hype, but hey, it's finally finished! My laptop can finally breath because oh man did this beast make CSP chug. You don't even wanna know how many layers this was.

NOTES:
-Took some fun liberties with the pre gym battle mission. Pretty self explanatory, we herdin' Wooloo!
-I hope you all enjoy stinky jerk Bede because he is here to cause problems on purpose.
-The "same number as gym leader plus one" rule isn't a rule that was in my playthrough, btw. Just some world building flavour and based on some stuff that happened in my gym battle notes :3c
-OKAY SO the Milo battle here was just, completely and utterly fudged. Ingame, Laurie took out both of his mons and only took one Max Strike from Eldegoss. Too boring and easy! Plus it is just such a shame Milo's team is just two Pokemon from the same evolution line when Applin is right there, with version exclusives! So I changed his team, and the battle completely. Sorry Stephan!
-Eh I'm sure Tumble's fine. No spooky foreshadowing doggo words here, no sir!
-EDIT: Okay head slightly less empty, so more explanation! I kind of cheated the "three turns as Dynamax" rule to make the battle a bit more exciting. I imagine the power of a Dynamax mon depends on the bond and experience of their trainer, and the more they train together, the longer they can hold a Dynamax form. But it still takes a lot of concentration and energy from both trainer and Pokemon, so once the Dynamax ends, they can't Dynamax again for the rest of the battle.
-My rules re: Dynamax ingame were I could only Dynamax my starter, thus why I didn't Dynamax Laurie ingame, and I obviously wasn't gonna chuck Harper Lee at a stab Max Overgrowth.
