One of my all time grand master favorite cartoonists, artists, caricaturists, etc. period - is the one and only, the late great Jack Davis. And while he is known for a great many things - EC COMICS Horror work, MAD, Movie Posters, Illustration Work, and much more - MY personal favorite is all the times he's worked on MONSTERS. And not just monsters, but his monsters are funny. They still have slime, dirt, warts, venom, and other ghoulishly macabre monstrosities, but they are HILARIOUS! He manages to merge them effortlessly into his style and it just possesses a natural charm when he draws monsters. His mix of dirty and pristine, sloppy and precise, ugly and beautiful, fully rendered cartoony style is so enjoyable and so organic and fully rendered in its presentation that when he does monsters he manages to capture all of their physical features and their grotesqueness, but mix it with an overflowing dose of personality.
