Description Of the many visionaries that shined bright in the Golden Age of Hollywood - one of the most exasperating, infuriating, temperamental, and moodiest of them went on to blaze forth in a filmography of black-hearted sensual beauty. Starring his muse, the blonde femme fatale from Germany, Marlene Dietrich, the director would craft his films with her in the 1930s, as a testament to his erotic obsession with her and his paranoia regarding the secretive, manipulative, and unfathomably mysterious soul of the Supreme Femme. Shanghai Express (1932) stars Dietrich as Shanghai Lily, onboard a train travelling from Peking to Shanghai, she is part of and is surrounded by a web of mysterious plots, shadowy secrets, and a labyrinth of lies and deceit. I had to include this poster as it just eye-catching. Considering that its the 1930s, its still not too far away from the 1920s to be influenced by the Art Deco design school. And the chalk white close up photo of Dietrich, immediately grabs you against the black void of the background surrounding her.
