Your day started well, you were happy and woke up nice and refreshed. Something you deserved after the long mission you went on. You got some breakfast with some members of the team, chatting and just having a fun time.
“Let's get out tonight and eat something”, Tony called out over his second coffee and you all agreed, excitement settling in you at the thought of going out with your friends.

But the mood changed over the day, Steve calling a debriefing meeting on your mission and pointing out the mistakes that were made, the stupid decision some of you called.
The overall mood shifted in the mansion, friends snapping at each other and you feel the dread in your stomach growing.

Lunch was quiet, nobody talking to each other and you sit silent and in this uncomfortable. Only the clanking of the utensils on the plates the breaks the tension. “Where should we go tonight?”, you try to lighten the mood but Tony just scoffs.
“I'm not going out.”

You swallow and nod, shrinking in on yourself and you feel the tears build up. But you keep it together. It was just a bit of tension, nothing too serious.

Afternoon rolls around and you decide that you want to watch a movie in the common room. Leaning back into the couch you settle for one of your favorite movies and try to ignore the tense air in the whole mansion.

Not even ten minutes into the movie Sam comes barreling in and his annoyed glance focuses on you.
“Hey, Sam.”
He scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Don't you have anything to do. You fucked up the mission just as much as we all did. The training room would be something you could go into and not watch a movie.”

It all comes so fast that you don't know what's going on until Sam shuts off the TV and throws the remote onto the table.
“I… What?”
“You heard me just fine.”

You slowly nod and stand up, your eyes brimming with tears and quickly you dash out the room.
Of course, you fucked things up too, you know that and you won't deny it at all. But you just wanted to relax a bit before you get into training again. Get a clear head to work on your flaws.

Running into your room you don't notice Bucky greeting you softly, having just come back from a mission of his own.
Confused he looks after you and senses that something is wrong with you. Even he felt the tension in the compound, even when he had no clue what it was about.

He settles for following you, wanting to make sure you are indeed okay. He knocks but gets no answer, his ears picking up the faint sound of a shower turning on.
Slowly he opens the door, peeking inside to make sure you aren't in the middle of undressing. Your room is empty and he walks in, shutting the door quietly behind himself.

With the silence of your room now surrounding him, he hears the quiet sobs mixed with the water rushing into the shower.
His heart starts to clench and he hurries to the bathroom door, opening it and the cries of distress grow louder.
He sees your silhouette standing behind the fogged shower wall. Sighing softly he undresses and puts his weapons which were still strapped to him onto the counter.

Once he is naked he gently knocks on the shower wall and your cries stop, a gasp leaving your lips.
“Can I come in, doll?”, he asks carefully, pure adoration in his voice.
You don't answer but he sees the slight nod and opens the door, stepping inside behind you.
The hot water shooks him a second before his skin gets used to it. He knows now what state of mind you are in.

You shudder under his touch when he wraps his arms around your waist, his cooler metal arm making goosebumps rise up on your skin.
His toned chest presses against your back and the additional warmth of his body seeps into your body, making the dread in your stomach a little bit lighter.

Bucky says nothing, just holds you and keeps you close. He is quiet even when you start to sob again, salty tears mixing with the hot water running down your body.
You are thankful for that, not knowing what to say to him about your inner turmoil. He helps alone when he is here, with you and holding you together. Showing you that he still cares.

After a while, your tears slow down and you turn in Bucky’s arms, wrapping your arms around his chest and you feel the gentle press of his lips on your head.
“The water is hot”, he says quietly and you nod, giving him the permission to change the temperature. His arm leaves your body for a short moment and the water slowly gets cooler, when his hand strokes your head.

“You know… Nobody can hear or see you cry in the shower…”, you mumble against his chest and he hums softly, a low rumble spreading through his body.
“I prefer the saying that a hot shower makes your mind reset.”
Now you hum and Bucky gently trails his hand down your back, soothing the tension inside you and slowly you relax against him.

Exhaustion settles in, from the crying, the build-up emotions and the feel of the hot water on your skin.
“Can I wash your hair?”, Bucky asks softly and you nod, too tired and drained to do anything.
He kisses your head and unwraps your arms from him before he takes his own from your waist. Then he gets the shampoo, the one you stole from him to use it when he is gone and lathers it into his hand and then gently massages it into your hair.

A happy sigh leaves you, his fingers working wonders on your scalp and you lean your forehead against his chest, sleepily closing your eyes.
Bucky takes the shower head and carefully tilts your head back with a finger on your chin. He smiles when he sees the cute expression on your face and kisses your nose, making your scrunch it up.
After he washed all the sud out of your hair, he puts the shower head back and strokes your cheeks.

“Ready to get out?”
You hum lazily and wrap your arms around his neck, making him hoist you up by your waist and he carries you out the shower and with one hand he grabs your fluffier towel.
Settling you back down on the floor, he wraps you in the warm towel and kisses your forehead.
“Let's get you dry and then we can cuddle. How does that sound?”

“Good”, you look up at him and a slight smile pulls on your lips, Bucky's heart jumping wildly in his chest when he sees it. He surely missed this sight of you being happy and content.
As promised he dries you off and then himself before walking you back into the bedroom and sitting you on your bed.
He leaves your side and searches through your drawer for something to wear.
After he found your favorite relaxing clothes and some boxers and sweatpants for himself, he walks back to you and helps you dress.

Dressed up in your favorite clothes you make grabby hands at Bucky and he chuckles and lays down, pulling you with him. He settles your head onto his chest and tugs you into his side.
You sigh softly, a slight smile gracing your lips and you feel the tension of the day melt away and making room for the sleepiness and happiness this situation provides now.

“You wanna talk about it?”, Bucky asks, his hand trailing down your back. You shake your head and close your eyes.
“I want to enjoy this.”
Bucky smiles and tugs you closer, keeping you secure against him and slowly makes your worries melt away and lull you into sleep.
