Flash! Just tossed the storyboard template on one layer, and sketched the characters in on sequential frames on a layer below. Then rendered out the panels as a PNG sequence, and put them in a panel format like this.

That also made it really easy to start on the animation, I just had to lengthen the individual frames out into the appropriate length for the action and add sound- then I had a base to work on top of for posing the actual Flash rigs etc.

That's also the strategy I used to build the Apple Pie comic [link] - all the panels were done on subsequent frames in Flash, which is why the panels are all the same size. (In that case, it was sketched in MyPaint first tho')

Thanks so much for the long reply! Very helpful.

Should've guessed it was done in Flash...lots of people seem to use Flash for boarding, and it makes sense if you can then just animate directly on top of that.
