unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), hedwig is not a big deal for all hp fans so i didn't feel the need for plastering 'SPOILERS!1!!!1!1!!!!' everywhere on this.so yeah. JKR, you suck.

i was devestated when hedwig died! hedwig represented harry's childhood and thats why she killed her off. /:

I was so sad when hedwig died... I cried for like 20 mins after reading it, I now carefully avoid reading that scene when rereading the book

I know! It was so mean! And everyone loves Hedwig! Why did she have to be kept in the cage anyway? They should just have let her fly to the Burrow when she was ready to go, or at least have been able to fly free alongside Harry so that she could avoid getting blasted in the case of an attack! It was so horrible!

it's kinda a long story and a bit foggy for me (since i haven't read it in awhile) but here it goes:
death eaters were chasing harry on brooms while he was on the motorcycle hagrid has. hagrid made a sharp turn, causing harry to lose his grip on his luggage (including hedwig). he amazingly caught hedwig's cage when death eaters sent a curse at harry (which missed) and hit hedwig instead.
so in short, she died because JKR wanted to kill someone for no reason. huzzah!
