My dad had a cat just like that, he would stay at his side or on his shoulders in the street.

He was.
Sadly, he had a tragic end, but lived a very good life and discovered more things than most domestic cats will in their entire life !
Also he got too fat to be on my father's shoulders at the end of his life. It was kinda awkward.
