My personal thoughts on this character, if we ever learn anything about her, is Capcom likes to have some sort of sybolism or meaning behind characters names.
The two reoccurring characters that push Dante forward in DMC1 are Vergil and Trish, named for Virgilius and Beatrice who guided Dante Alighieri.
Nero is named after Emperor Nero of Rome, not the color, so I imagine 'Red' as you call her might be named Julia (or some variation of the name), after Emperor Nero's mother. Her name wasn't Julia, but she and her siblings were referred to by the family name Julia.
