"Well, guys, this is your den." A golden-furred she-wolf had led Sun and Shade to the apprentice den.
Sun jumped up and down excitedly. "I can't wait to sleep in our new nests! Oh, and train! And, and-"
"Geez, Sun! You're acting like a pup!" Shade told him as she flicked one ear.
"Well, technically, I am still a pup.."
"My POINT is: stop acting like that! We're trainees now, we need to learn to start acting more mature."
Sun pouted slightly. "You're no fun."
"Anyway.. Thanks for showing us around the forest, Sydney," Shade said to the golden she-wolf.
"No problem. Happy to help." With a flick of her tail, she left Shade and her brother alone by the den entrance.
Sun turned to his sister. "What now?" he asked.
Shade shrugged. "I dunno. But I do know that we should get some rest. We need our energy for when Zadaa and Bramble take us out to train."
Sun's ears drooped. "But I HATE taking naps!" he complained with a whine.
"Too bad. We need rest, and I won't tell you that again." Without waiting for her sibling's reaction, she padded into the den. Sun let out a sigh and followed her in.
---
"Hey! Wake up!"
Shade felt a sharp prod in her side and blinked open her eyes to see Sun standing over her.
"What?" she growled, annoyed at being disturbed out of sleep.
"Don't you know? It's time for training, duh!" Sun exclaimed, rolling his eyes in exhasperation.
Shade ignored him and stood up, breaking out into a stretch. Suddenly, there was another sharp prod in her side.
"What the heck, Sun?! I'm getting up!"
"It was just for good measure," Sun said with a smirk. A moment later, he bounced out of the den, not bothering to wait for her.
Shade sighed. "Sometimes I even wonder how he's my brother."
She followed after Sun out into the sunshine, blinded slightly by the sudden light. She noticed that it was well past sun-high, and was now late in the afternoon. The sun would be going down in a few hours.
Outside, their mentors were waiting, along with Sun.
"You ready?" Zadaa asked Shade. After Shade nodded, she said, "Great, let's go."
She began to lead the way, with Bramble following behind, and Shade and Sun trailing behind.
