Why would you go out of your way and waste your time "criticizing" someone's work? You have no right to say something like this. If you don't like it, why don't you keep quiet and draw? Or just find something you do like and comment on that?

Even so, do you even think about what people would feel when they read something as horrible as what you say? Sure, I've seen worse, but it's all the same! Sure, you call what you give is "criticism" and not a "critique," but "critism" can hurt even more. If the person at hand doesn't even want a critique, why the hell give them something worse?

Because I don't believe somebody who draws so poorly should be getting so much positive feedback. I have to wonder who all is even being honest.
Sometimes I wonder why there isn't just a "Please kiss my ass" option for comments.

What the heck is your problem? You don't just go onto another person's page and flame on them like this. And, for your information, the popular section is the most popular artist SO FAR, so perhaps when she first submitted the work, it came out to be this way. You have no right to come here and tell them that their work is "crap" so, please, back off.

Actually... yes, it is. You should not be allowed to openly flame people.

kaibafangirl In reply to michelleleo71 [2007-09-08 01:43:40 +0000 UTC]
if I openly flamed people on this ridiculous website even half as much as I would like to, I would have been banned the day I joined. There is one rule on DA: Content over quality. A cute anime drawing, no matter how terrible, will ALWAYS get more attention than a decent or even great realistic drawing, or anything that isn't anime or fanart.
I will say what I think, thank you very much.

Potential, yes. Most artists nowadays start out with anime, but that doesn't make it a wise choice. Her coloring needs work as well. While I do understand what a scanner can do to a colored drawing, I do know that it will not spread the coloring apart THIS badly.
If you who are so determined not to listen to a critique are still reading this, listen: Practice drawing people by having a friend pose for you. Draw what you see, not what you think. try not to add any style to it. Practice shading by just using a regular pencil, then when you've got the feel of it move to colors. Look into color theory or invest in a color wheel.

Here on DevArt two things come into play: Content, and amount. If you draw more anime and fanart, no matter how bad it is, it will get hits. Just the same, if you submit a LOT, like YOU do, you will also get hits.
Talent doesn't really matter anymore. Looking at the majority of people in my art class at school proves that much.

then dont do it nemor but remeber the majority of work on DA and ppl is anime. most on r a young crowd and so looking for detail is scarce im just leanant on all work. ^^ i like this pic very much so and like others more i find its better to be easygoing than let all the cramp crap bother you. but hey thts just my opinion.

It just happens to be people's prefrences, you shouldn't hate on people who draw when they get popular, it's the decision of the other people. Ripping on other's work and calling it "crap" is just rude.

Maybe you haven't been around here too long. if you saw all the amazing artwork that gets absolutely no attention you'd agree with me. The anime and fanart take up too much space. I would love to see them completely banned from DA. SA can keep that junk.

michelleleo71 In reply to kaibafangirl [2007-09-08 04:42:33 +0000 UTC]
I KNOW it takes up too much space and, dude, you draw anime. There are a LOT of underappreciated artists, I know, but it doesn't mean that everyone else sucks.

kaibafangirl In reply to michelleleo71 [2007-09-08 16:16:54 +0000 UTC]
I do not. Point out one in my gallery. Go ahead. I see "generic chibi" and "seta chibi" neither of which are serious works. Just because something isn't solid realism doesn't make it anime. Would you call what-i-do-is-secret's work anime? Of course not.

I'll be glad to, remember that there are all sorts of drawings that "fall" under anime, including works of *lone-momo and =budgie who are talented ANIME artists.
Misdreavus
From a Cloud
Blue
Aika - Sky
Mage King
As well as two "chibis" you have up.

Do explain how Blue, From a Cloud, and Mage King are anime. They are not. not in any sense of the word. and as mentioned IN the description of Aika Sky, I did not draw it. It is OFFICIAL art that I colored. I think you have a skewed sense of what anime art is.

As I said, Anime has DIFFERENT forms, there are lots of "realistic" anime like ergo proxy and witch hunter robin, still anime, and you can even look around, there are los of anime works LIKE that.

kaibafangirl In reply to michelleleo71 [2007-09-09 19:42:11 +0000 UTC]
No. Anime is anime. There is no such thing as realistic anime. There is simplified realism, but that is NOT anime. (ex: American comic book styles)

Did I argue? If you haven't noticed, a good 98% of the popular artists on DA are ANIME artists.

Right, because she's a better artist, I'm saying the "animeish realism" you seem to have actually, yes, falls under anime by technical means
π: 0 β©: 1
kaibafangirl In reply to michelleleo71 [2007-09-10 20:42:15 +0000 UTC]
I'll repeat myself: Just because it isn't full-on realism doesn't make it anime. Anime to me is characterized by sharp, well defined features (mostly geometric rather than organic shapes and lines), and generally poor anatomy. The coloring is usually bright and unrealistic, and the intent of the work is more expressive rather than serious.
Anime styles are a good way to start, as they are simple. But you don't want to REMAIN there, not if you plan on going professional with your art. Anime is so unoriginal and common, it will not get you anywhere in the professional world.
Unless you go to Japan. In which case you're a wap.

michelleleo71 In reply to kaibafangirl [2007-09-10 21:15:22 +0000 UTC]
The anatomy on this are rather correct and there are few sharp lines, still, this is anime. [link]

They're actually screenshots from the show. And it isn't edgy, unporportional or unprofessional... no way unoriginal.

Count the number of anime shows. Then count the number of anime artists. Then look at how little variation there is.
Don't tell me anime is unoriginal.

michelleleo71 In reply to kaibafangirl [2007-09-11 01:13:56 +0000 UTC]
That's VERY far from many other animes, if you think ergo proxy is in any way similar to Pita-ten, then I must sigh at your inability to see. The variations are tremendous so, please, don't even try to use that as an argument.

kaibafangirl In reply to michelleleo71 [2007-09-11 01:56:58 +0000 UTC]
Bottom line: anime is for people with no real drive for art.
You, I think, are a bit of a wap.

Exactlyl why your name, gallery and avatar contain thick refrences to anime, right?

1. Old account. 2. This is a name a friend gave to me in 7th grade (at least 4 years ago) and it stuck. Thick reference? I think that would require more than ONE CHARACTER from ONE SHOW to be used.
Moron.
Other than the mentioned chibis, my gallery contains no anime. The closed minded one is the one that cant take a critique, (your little friend who thinks she can draw. and snapesnogger. sne can fuck herself too.)
