Description Note: for the time being, I have run out of time to actively maintain FacePanel. Feel free to download and use, but know that updates won't be coming until I have more free time. If someone is interested in hiring me to develop this or a similar application, or purchasing the rights to the current source code, I'd be happy to talk about it - otherwise I plan on resuming development at some point in the future. Thanks for understanding!

(formerly known as Notificate)

FacePanel is a Facebook notifier for the Mac Dashboard. Checks your friend requests, messages and notifications every time you bring up the Dashboard, and displays them in an interface similar to the Facebook website.

Download, unzip, run the MPKG file, and follow the instructions carefully!

Follow the FacePanel page on Facebook for updates on your news feed! [link]

Also, check the project download page for more information about the current release: [link]

Version 0.3 - changed name to FacePanel (sometimes shortened to FPanel), rewritten codebase, removed ugly scrollbar, tweaked various interface elements

Notes:
- you must sign in to Facebook using Safari the first time you use the widget (you can quit Safari after you sign in)
- if the widget won't connect once you log in using Safari, wait 60 seconds, click on the widget, and press CMD+R to refresh it
- you must have your DocumentRoot folder set to /Library/WebServer/Documents in Apache (if you don't know what this is, don't worry about it, you're probably fine)
- released under GPLv3. Please respect this license. All non-Facebook-related graphics are my work and are part of the program.

Troubleshooting
If you're having problems signing in or if the widget disappears, follow these steps until it begins working. If you can't get it to work after doing all of these things, comment or message me and I'll do my best to help you.

1. Remove the widget from the Dashboard. If the widget has disappeared, click the "+" in the bottom-left corner of the Dashboard and look for a little "X" near where you had the widget. Once you've removed it, drag a new instance from the panel at the bottom.

2. If you're still having problems, reinstall FacePanel using the installer MPKG. There is no need to uninstall before reinstalling. The installer will overwrite all files.

3. If this doesn't help, open System Preferences -> Sharing and make sure "Web Sharing" is checked.

4. Open Terminal and type "killall Dock" and press enter. Try the widget again.

5. Open Safari and sign out of Facebook, then sign back in, wait 5 minutes and try the widget again.

6. If none of these steps helped, comment on this deviation or message me and I'll do my best to help you.

Thanks! I wish Windows had a "Dashboard" that you could pull up like on a Mac. The widgets are basically just tiny web pages.

And anyone is cool enough for the Mac club, you just have to somehow afford it! It took me forever to save up for my Macbook Pro, but it's been an excellent long-term investment.

Yeah, windows calls them 'gadgets' but none of the ones they offer are very good at all.

That's my only problem, I hope I can afford one someday! haha

Open System Preferences -> Sharing and make sure "Web Sharing" is checked. This is supposed to be set by the installer but there seems to be an incompatibility on some systems.... Remove and re-add the widget to the Dashboard once you've done this and let me know if it works.
