Sanford DESIGN Drawing 3800 2B pencil on Standard Copy paper.Today has been weird for me. I made some break-throughs in drawing backs. I felt better, stronger, more inspired. Then....I browsed DA and fell into a deep hole of depression. I cowered in a little corner, sucked my thumb and wept like a 5 year old. Well...at least figuratively
I saw people who just plain destroy my ability. They have what I desparately want. The ability to draw people in any shape, size, position, shading, without any reference. That's what I want out of life. That is my life's pursuit. Maybe I'm trying too hard. I dunno.
SO....I felt that I need to re-afirm my abilities. I did some deep breathing excercises while drawing. I left my macabre, darkside loose. Out came forth the doodle that stands before.

you took the words right out of my mouth. I get extremely anxious at times , but i understand that whatever we want in life cannot be forced. i recommend meditation, friend.

I guess no matter how good you are, there will always be someone better. There's no use getting depressed about it.
You are awesome with random sketches. If there's anything more off the wall than a sketch (and no references, at that) then I'd love to see it. Your other art isn't exactly a "no-nevermind" either.
((By the way, if awesome galleries filled with gorgeous art depress you, my gallery should be a happy reminder that you do indeed excel far above the majority in your drawing skills and motivation. XD lol ))

Too true. No matter how good we get there is always someone better...but even that is subjective
Honestly, it intrigues me that everyone who sees my art sees it differently than I do. IN some ways I envy everyone else becuase they get to see things about my work that I might never will

haha i have tried the one to NES and i think it's really hard! i died like the first thing i did ^^ i love the snes version though..and i think i'm pretty good at it too!

Oh wow, I almost wish the woman and the zombie were separate from the rest. They could carry an entire piece. Love the pen in the head, such a humorous touch.

Thanks! I am so glad that people accept my bizzare doodles! It;s refreshing. No one in my family understands or enjoys these things. All I get is:
"Eeew! Can you draw something more cute!?!"

Its true. So many people walking around with clean shaven faces and credit cards to buy themselves all of the pretty artwork that others design, but none for you and me. How wrong is it that we should both feel the same about our abilities? And just to think, I could be blind and never even know what art truly was...or maybe I could have been born with no hands so that I would never have experienced the attempt to make something wonderful.
Or maybe, just maybe...we should look upon what skills and understanding of appreciation we have for the craft and smile. Maybe we should be happy to know that such brilliance and ability may someday be achievable by our own doing. Until then just be the best YOU that you can be and don't fret the small stuff.

It's true. I really shouldn't...but I do. I feel...I feel a song lyric coming on:

I do love being an artist. I chuckle at my bizzare subjects. I enjoy other people's reaction (good or bad) to my work.
It's just my imagination is so powerful that my skill doesn't match. It's frustrating!
I know that if I can push for more 'realism' in my work. More professional polish....I can do better.

As for peoples ability to draw without reference, I think a lot of them are lying. I have a few in my gallery that have had no reference and you can tell besause boobs arent quite right and legs are too long.
I think even the best artists in the world be they comic or fantasy use cameras, mirrors and magazine pics.

I guess I've said it before, some people are born with ability and others have to work hard for the same ability.
Odd thing about me is that I advance strongly in some areas, while other areas decline. Back in 1996 I could draw hands with great ease and they were very realistic. However my faces were not very good. Now I am satisfied with my faces...but my hands lack the realism I want. It's a constant juggling act!
One of the strangest phenomenons is that I can study anatomy for hours and have learned it for that day. The next day, all but gone. Then, about a few months later it returns on its on.
It's almost as if I will get better over time wether I study or not..so maybe I should just sit back and be patient? Psychology proves that to be incorrect. It would state that if I stopped drawing, my development stays where I stopped.
I think your feelings on this whole art malarky are shared by 99% of artists! We are just never satisfied when it boils down to it. I hate showing my WIP's because they are so messy and I think people will start to say I am crap! I see so many peoples works in progress and they just seem to be on the ball from start to finish...I wonder how I ever finish mine! Because right up to the last few furlongs I think to myself...this is soooooo bad! Then I seem to wing it somehow! I have no structure or routine really and I wish i did have. You will see no tutorials from me lol.

You're sketches are good. You have a great foundation of color which isn't somthing that comes easily. So you;re already ahead in your development.
