Description *2/5/11 UPDATE!* AFter some reconsideration on my 'more-than'zealous-if-not-somewhat-unconventional' approach to creating OC's; I've tweeked Velocity's profile a little so it's a little more down-to-earth ( or down to cybertron I should say! XD) well anyway, enjoy!

-----------------------------------------------------------

VELSOCITY

Gender: Femme

Fraction: The 9 (Autobot paramilitary battalion)

Function: Sniper/ Recognisance

Class: Stealth

Altmode: Cybertronian AX23 stealth cruiser (modified for sniping systems)

Primary weapons: Long range ion-plasma sniper rifle, plasma guns, lazar guns, wrist guns,

PROFILE:

A real femme fatale, Velocity is the sassy, sexy, seductive femme sniper of the 9; proficient in both the arts of flirting and sniping, her eye-catching charms have wooed many a Deception to his doom. Velocity served in the Autobot intelligence unit for a good number of years before she was recruited by Majestrix Prima to serve as the 9’s best reconnaissance agent, as well as one of their best snipers; Velocity has a real knack for reading other bots/people’s faces, especially other mech’s; her feminine wiles and champion poker face allows her to talk her way into anyone’s trust and make them divulge their secrets. Her reputation as a 'less than merciful' interogator is second to none and to date no mech’s been able to say no to her or her...except one.

Deathshot had worked with the 9 for a good few hundred years by the time Velocity joined his sniper unit; of all the mech’s in the 9 Deathshot was the one that really got her attention, over time she grew to like him and made her mind up to keep him for her own. But when she tried to woo him (Deathshot was still mourning the death of his family and was in no mood to open up to anyone) he spurned her advances and made it clear to her that he didn’t have any feelings for her. This came as a real shock for Velocity, and for the first time ever she felt heartache; but more than anything she felt bitter and angry, angry at the sniper for being stuck in his emotional turmoil and not being able to move on with his life, when she confronted him with this there was an altercation and the two ultimately fell out. For the sake of keeping peace in the unit Majestrix transferred Velocity to the 9’s recognisance and intelligence unit. From then on Velocity’s unresolved feeling made her more stubborn, and prone to jealousy, and at times, she can’t help but feel bitter for not being able to have the mech she wanted...the only mech she ever loved.

On the battlefield Velocity is one of the most deadliest snipers around, favouring long ranges shots she’ll fly high overhead and pick her targets off one by one, she may not be as experienced or proficient Deathshot but she’s still a crack shot, being able to pick off a target from over 6000 yards away (for human snipers that’s the equivalent of 1000 yards). She can be competitive during a close quarter’s fire fight and likes bet with her fellow snipers at how many targets she can pick off before them, as well as take the time to really put the thumbscrews on her enemies and make them sweat bullets.

ALTMODE:

Velocity’s altmode is the Cybertronian AX23 stealth cruiser, a standard stealth cruiser with a full light spectrum distorting camouflage field which enables her to disappear from sight, plus the metal of her armour enables complete invisibility to radar. Formatted around the same specs as Deathshot’s altmode, the Cybertronian AX23 stealth cruiser is more basic than the Cybertronian Stealth-class Sniper craft; it’s smaller, not as bulky and despite being built with ion-plasma engines, doesn’t have the same long range speed as the sniper craft so she’s not able to outrun Deathshot in an airborne fight. The undercarriage/right shoulder are modified to carry and deploy her sniper rifle, and her additional firearms are each capable of long, mid, and short range shots.

I have to agree with Blueshift in regards to the proportions. The legs are indeed too short and end up giving her very juvenile proportions. Another problem I noticed is that the bent arm is actually longer than the straight arm. While it isn't absolutely necessary to be slavish to human proportions, typically, when doing Transformers and other "robotic" characters, the lower legs are typically exaggerated in their length so that the legs are longer than typical for humans (not shorter) in order to give a sense of towering height. And that is ultimately where the problem with her legs is. The lower legs are too short. Typically, the lower legs (for humans)from the top of the knee to the ankle is the same length as the upper leg from hip to the bottom of the knee. The foot adds even more length to the lower legs thus making the totality of the lower legs longer than the upper legs.

Over all, it's a very nice piece, and you have a great attention to detail. If you can work on your proportions a bit more, this could be a stand out piece. Some minor adjustments in Photoshop with the scale tool could correct these issues pretty easily.

As for her being a prostitute, I don't really see that as a problem since there were topless bars mentioned in the canon.

Hmm, good call on the legs, I typically use human bases for all my TF OC's, though with Velocity I did try to add additional length to the legs by extending the feet into a design with the heels being secondary backwards-facing knees, like with birds? it's just with her facing forward in the picture you can't see it here, but still, I didn't think the scale tool could be used to ulter the hight of the figure without making the rest of the body look off-scale or our of sorts; I'll have to experiment and play around a bit.

Thanks!

The term you're looking for is digigrade legs, and that "backward knee" you're referring to on such animals are actually the animal's heel. Animals with digigrade legs actually walk on their toes. Dogs, cats, horses, etc. all have digidrade legs.

As for using the scale tool, it does take some careful manipulation in combination with the other Transform functions as well.

Digigrade legs, gotcha! I'll have to remember that

I am confused about why you went to such great lengths to make her look human, but then chose not to use human proportions? Her lower body is about 3/4 to 7/8 a head short relative to her torso. Have you considered using different line weights for your outlining? What would the undercarriage of her vehicle mode look like?

PS: You should do a collaboration with ~Tramp-Graphics .

Ooooh I like your sharp eye for detail! when it comes to body preportions, if its human straight up then yeah the usual head to torso ratio would apply, but with transfromers, with all that armour and additional features it doesn't really matter to me (but then I'm not particularly picky when it comes to really fine detail, it purly depends on what's being drawn/painted at the time and how enthusiastic I am about it). As for the 'human' profile of the face? it's because her face, neck, wrists and fingers are made up of nanites, essentially they form a sort of 'metalic skin'; I'm currently working on a piece that goes into detail on cybertronian nanite technology, I hope to post it by next weekend so keep an eye on gallery if your interested. As for her undercarrage? I'll let you make up your own mind on that, because I stopped at just the base side profile of her altmode.

*peeks at Tramp-Graphics gallery* He's pretty good! I'll keep him in mind for something special, thanks! XD

Her proportions are very child-like though, which makes her role as a mecha-prostitute a bit worrying

Whilst that is great art, I really have to question the concept. I mean, a /prostitute/ Transformer? Really?

Why not? when I first drew her she just struck me as a very sexy femme, & hey who's to say human's are the only species that enjoy sex/interfacing for fun? dolphins have been observed enjoying foreplay for hours on ends before they finally copulate; why can't a mech have a little fun during his off duty hours? thanks for the critique anyway
