Knowing nature as we do, there is unlikely to be any part of this complex creature that doesn't serve a very specific purpose.
Every articulation, overlap and appendage is fit for purpose and proven. I'm sure more subtle and innovative evolutionary forces
than "Disruption" are at work in nature...
