This is a lovely shot Rich.  I understand about your feeling of 'something missing' though.  Could it be that, for a side shot, the petals should have more interest?  The main one that you have with light on it is virtually a flat panel, whereas possibly an assembly of curled edges would have more interest?  Just a thought anyway, seeing as you asked for opinions.  It's still a very nice shot though

This one is interesting; your initial idea was great! I like the thought of a rose being regal.

I do agree, I feel like something is missing too; I think perhaps it's because we're getting a kind of "hind-view" of the rose rather than a front-view, you know what I mean? The petals lift up so that we can't see inside of the rose; I wasn't there, so I don't know if it was possible, but I feel that if you could have photographed it from the other side, perhaps then it wouldn't have that sense of "missing" something.

Still, great color and use of framing!
