oh go read on Lucy's backstory. it's very complex. This actually is answered in a story that's already completed. On one of my watcher's pages.

While it is true that the higher you fly, the harder you fall... if I'm going to fall anyway, I think I'd prefer it to be from a high enough place that I will no longer care that I've fallen once it's over.
Still, a very emotional piece. Certainly touched my heart.
