So convinced me to go post this thing... one of the most sought after mods for tyranids. how to magnetise the damn tervigon/tyrannofex. and I did it. took a retarded number of magnets though.
yes it's what I'd been working on recently. it's only half painted, so it's a WIP. (half painted = I put the basic main colours but didn't go into the super blending steps. I.e. it's the stage before I bust out the details and clean stuff, looks oddly nice for tyranids though)

So yes, since I got a bit of a craze in modular models, and magnetising every damn big thing I have so I don't have to buy so many models, this was the result. a fully magnetised big bug. and must say, was largely fun to do. the one that is irritating is the acid spray that was irritating to magnetise.

So yes, even though a tervigon is currently good and the tyrannofex is considered to be too expensive, I like the idea of the tyrannofex so I now have the best of both worlds. a gaming model and also a model I can pose as a more cool looking bug. also it can now be run as every type of possible equipped form
yes, I know, there's a version not here which is the tervigon with just claws n teef? YES that one I'd just not attach any arms to the thing then! HAH

so now my tyranids can FINALLY pose a bit of a threat to my orks.

Also just as a note to people attempting this: you have to raise the model slightly as you see from the little plastic and resin blocks I stuck at it's front feet. this is so that your egg-sac thing can slide in properly.

Questions? ask away, will be happy to help from here.

Oh, I will. I've got a Harpy/Crone just begging for magnetised arms. I'm also going to put the Tentaclids on flier bases - easier to keep track of, and looks way cooler IMO.

Yeahhhh I'm in the process of magnetising a harpy/chrone for that purpose.

Not even Daemon princes can withstand that !!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to kubuk13 [2013-01-18 12:45:40 +0000 UTC]

lol nah,
daemon princes make mincemeat out of tervigons/tyrannofexes. Truth is they're not that good in close combat even if equipped for close combat, and they can't deal enough ranged damage to stop a prince.

unless of course if you so happen to die to the str 10 rupture cannon then that's just bad luck.

You know, that thing looks pretty great without the head.
I really think there's opportunity for more untraditional Tyranid layouts, but you don't see too many.

MrSwede In reply to Snowfyre [2013-01-21 00:36:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! It's like, Tyranids are hellish death monsters from outer space, why would they need heads?
Couldn't they just have, like, large, gaping holes full of teeth?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to MrSwede [2013-01-21 09:26:46 +0000 UTC]

That's more chaosy.

MrSwede In reply to Snowfyre [2013-01-21 23:20:40 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I'm primarily a Chaos fan, but I don't see why they should get a monopoly on gaping holes full of teeth. And it's not like they don't share attributes with other races.

then go daemons. they have more gaping mouth-holes things.

thanks. the incredibly swappable thing is useful.

painting this... may take a while. especially as I'm still focusing on the tyrant.

KB-Unlimited In reply to Snowfyre [2013-01-17 14:53:15 +0000 UTC]

Aye, it's a big model too. With the time you put into making it modular you don't wanna ruin it with a rushed paint job. Take it slow.

Snowfyre In reply to VaryagOfMiklagaard [2013-01-17 14:42:17 +0000 UTC]

problem with deep strike vs my varient of orks:
1) HQ is a useless mek in 30 shootaboyz with 30 lootas behind... deepstrikers get shot a lot....

2) HQ is in mega armour in a battlewagon. or

3) HQ is a bikeboss. moves away.

either way I habitually field huge numbers of lootas. not sure why I do that.

Problem with deepstrike vs my varient of tyranid:

1) HQ is a flying hive tyrant. flies away.
2) HQ is the parasite. flies away too.

My tervigon is not a hq. it's a troop.
