"The truck went off the road." When her youngest brother had called she hadn't been expecting that. Miss T. hadn't been expecting any sort of call, truth be told, they weren't a really phone dependent family. And they never ever made calls that sounded so needy unless they meant it.

"Where are you, I'll come get you." She was already settling in to a more protective mode of thought in response to the rattled sound of little Danny's voice. If anyone had a right to the jitters he did, it was his first real accident. While she may be the tyrant of the family she was his sister and nothing should cause him to sound so scattered, but her.

Dan continued to come across as distracted and upset as he strung his thoughts together in ways that barely made sense. "I'm fine, the ambulance, I'm sitting in it. The.. the truck went off the road."

Dark brows drew together, a hint frustrated that he wasn't telling her anything other than that the accident had been enough to make an ambulance necessary. Patient and even she assured him that she had heard about the truck, but was more concerned with him. "Yes, you've said that. It's alright, you're alright."

"No, I..." She waited patiently for him to find the words to continue. Sounds could be heard from somewhere close on the other end. It took her a minute to realize he was rubbing at his face; that was what she was hearing. "The truck went off the road."

The way he kept repeating himself she wondered if he didn't have a concussion. It had happened to him before and he had asked half a dozen times what the day was before someone caught on to the problem. She was close to suggesting that he give the phone to one of the paramedics when he interrupted with what she thought was a sob.

His voice sounded very small coming through the receiver, very small and achingly shaky as he released the breath he was holding and searched desperately for the next. "The trailer went off the road."

At approximately 3:15 AM on Interstate B a car crossed the median and struck an oncoming truck and trailer. The truck was forced off the road and onto it's side. It's hitch broke and the trailer ended up in the ditch nearby. The truck's passengers, Joseph Morrow and Daniel T. of Twin Peaks township, sustained minor injures and were transported to the Middletown Hospital. One horse within the trailer was pronounced dead at the scene, cause a broken neck, the second horse was removed and placed in the care of a local veterinary clinic where it was later declared beyond medical help and humanly euthanized. Police have detained the driver of the car for operating with a suspended license.

I didn't want to be lynched when the retirement journal goes up in a moment and the few of you that read through it get the unpleasant news that not everyone got their Happily Ever After without at least something a little extra being said about it. Though my neck is probably still at risk for doing this to Dee. There was some debate over whether I actually wanted to give in to the fate rolled for her or give her a cleaner out. I think you can tell which way I finally swung. This has been written and giving me all kinds of grief since the first season of She'll Do's race career and, sad as it is to see her go this way, I'm pleased with it as a small look at the less maniacal, rarely seen sides of some of my other characters.
