Description This took a while.    Hope you like it!

Click the Download button in the upper-right for a detailed 2000 x 1820 version. Rendered in DAZ Studio 4.7, lots and lots of Photoshop (but surprisingly little color correction for once), Ron's brushes, and content from DAZ3D.

Comments always appreciated! Thanks very much for taking a look!

updated: Random info
---------------------------

* The final image just before flattening had 49 image layers and 16 color correction layers. I probably had closer to 60 layers at one point. It had 31 masks, most of which I did not end up using because I rendered each important element separately (Smacky, both demonesses, the table, candle, book, background, etc were each on their own layer). That is not something I would do again for a complex image, masks would have done the job with less work.

* I almost gave up on this picture when I had to start painting the hair. No 3D hair could give the dynamics I wanted, and I haven't had a lot of success painting hair in the past. Both demonesses have 3D hair as a base, but nearly all of it was painted over in the end. Smacky's afro is still the old Alicia Afro from Runtime DNA, but I have an 'afro brush' that I use on it to fill in the transparent areas and improve the edges.

* The soft skin impact from Smacky's foot was done in a fairly simple way; I rendered the demoness twice, once with a normal torso and once with a large stomach morph applied. I then placed the heavier-morphed render over the Smacky and demoness ones, used a hide-all layer mask, and carefully painted in the heavier areas above, below, and very slightly over Smacky's foot. A little Burn or darker brush to add some shadows and it was done. MUCH easier than attempting to use any sort of 3D deformer.

* The falling book (and the one on the fallen demoness' head) were retextured (something I very rarely do), and there actually are brief but complete one-page stories of Smacky and Lust written on the pages. You can't really read them because the book isn't open wide enough, but they're in there because I was tired of trying to paint hair and wanted something more relaxing and pointless to do.

* See that one brown diagonal book next to the fallen demoness' hand? That was a test to see if I could extract one book from the book piles in the Mage Tower 3D scene (which I did using the Geometry Brush tool in Studio). My original plan was to hand-place all of the books scattered everywhere as if Smacky punched the demoness into the bookshelves, but that proved to be way too much work (and I think it might have been looked too cluttered).

* A couple of the pieces of flying glass have distortion and reflections (the one on her knee and the large one next to her breast). Those are hand-done and were also just tests that I thought turned out well enough to keep. There was a third, but it didn't look that good. I should probably go back and add a tiny bit of frost to some of those right pieces though, they look a little too clean.

* Way back when this was still in the planning stages, I wanted it to be a scene from Smacky's first battle with demonesses in the royal hall. However, Smacky wears a dress when that takes place, and I don't think I could have gotten a non-dynamic 3D dress to look right while she's doing a kick. Maybe when I'm rich and can afford Marvelous Designer, but skimpy armor Smacky had to stand in for now.

I think the problem is that I haven't shown the demonesses really doing anything bad, so you guys feel sorry for them. They really are bad; they burn people's home, hold children hostage until they get what they want, and kill any mortal who tries to fight them. This flaeme (the Librarian) reads and studies in order to come up with new ways of doing evil, which she then passes on to her companions. I'm glad you like them, but they're not the ones to cheer for, lol (also they just regenerate in the underworld and come back, they never really die).

Oh no, I'm glad you like any of my characters and art will always mean something different and be enjoyed in different ways by different people. I just don't want Sahmika to be seen as being cruel or the bad one; she represents nature and everything good, and fights demons and demonesses because they threaten those things.

Oh, does Chuck Norris use that kick? Haha, I based this pic partially on a female fighting photo I came across (it wasn't this dynamic though). They both fight for what's good and right though, so he wouldn't have a problem.     Thank you very much!

Great jo, how much you spend time on Photoshop? Do you have a photoshop tutorial specially for 3D render?

SnowSultan In reply to Doc-Savage21 [2018-07-10 06:54:33 +0000 UTC]

I spent about two weeks on postwork on this. I can't really write a tutorial because I don't have any reliable method of getting these results. I can recommend using NIK Tools from Google (the free version should still be around online somewhere) and I use Photoshop Curves to make strong changes to the colors. Hope that can help a little.

Thanks for the reply.

Two weeks? It's really an ultra-big time, hope you'll are fine, spending hours behind a computer isn"t a good habit.

The result is always fabulous, there is in Devianart many great artists! As you and other. Thanks for the tutorials. It helped me.

Haha, well I sit around most of the day and I'm still in fairly good health.     I haven't made any new art in over a year and a half too, so I really should sit in front of the computer more.     Thank you very much!

Thanks for the reply. The soft skin impact from smacky is an excellent technic.

Thanks again! Soft skin impact is tough to do because our software doesn't yet have the technology to simulate it, I have to paint it by hand.

Impressive, painting by hand take more time. It's an artistic work and a great tribute to the mighty Argosy cover.

Your style is extremly brillant and the way you create scene is perfect, I like the way you use the color, warm colors looks like the funky style. Smacky is a special character, you'll need to create something around her as a comic or a movie.

Thanks very much! I'm pretty happy with how that came out.     It was actually my last major image using 3Delight before I switched to Iray (you can tell because the metals don't look that realistic). Sometimes I wonder if I should go back though, haha.

Judging from what you wrote, I can see that it did...That's a lot to do. I don't even have the patience for it. I'd go mad.

SnowSultan In reply to UndercityIV [2017-09-16 05:54:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I have a lot of patience, but this did take a lot out of me. Working on the same thing for so long drains your inspiration too.

UndercityIV In reply to SnowSultan [2017-09-16 07:02:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know, I get that way when I end up having to use shitty Indirect Lighting in Poser...So goddamn slow sometimes when you increase render dimensions..That's why I don't understand how the hell people can render in 3000 dimensions or higher...That would take way too goddamn long, I also don';t understand the purpose in increasing dimensions so high in the first place, it's not like it'll improve image quality or anything. It just adds way more time on how long it'll take to render.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SnowSultan In reply to UndercityIV [2017-09-21 04:41:22 +0000 UTC]

The main advantage to rendering large is that it makes postwork easier and it's always better to render larger and shrink it than to render too small and then need it larger - that's happened to me more than once in the past. You also *really* need an nVidia video card for Iray to render at a decent speed.
