Thanks very much. Yeah everyone automatically thinks you're racist or sexist if you're not in favor of changing white characters, but I'd rather see new characters with their own stories and history.

I totally agree, itβs total lack of imagination that leads to Hollywood and the comic Industry reinventing characters , which at the same time wipes out their own history as a character, and is a lost opportunity to create something new and exciting.
great picture though, and she would be a superb new character, potential ally maybe...

Yeah, I just think it's a quick way to try and appeal to a new audience without taking the feelings of loyal fans of the character into account. Thanks very much! Smacky already has a blonde, white ally (Eri), but I can't find any good updated clothing for her.Β

Sure, and that's certainly part of the reason why they do it. It just seems like such simple-minded pandering; like "if we make her black, black people will like her!". That's not how you make people like a character.

She looks good either way, but damn right I agree with your message. It's one of the things that's really irritated me about the way they do things these days. Everything from a character's gender being transformed to conform (Apparently this fate awaits Winnie the Pooh and it makes no damn sense to me; he's Winnie the Pooh... people love Winnie the Pooh, don't they? :S) to weird standards that shouldn't ever be forced, to art being viciously adjusted by whingers because there's too much sexuality or not enough realism or some stupid shit and it's like ffs, it's ART. Leave it alone!!
I don't even know what to say that probably already hasn't been talked about already but my goodness it's upsetting. SJWs often do a lot of damage to creative freedom and expression; and it's a real issue, especially because there ARE indeed some issues with society that do need to be sorted out. It creates a ...really messy situation, all around.
I guess the best I myself can do is hope that saner minds are able to prevail and get these people to understand. It's one thing to be offended by, say, your very artwork. Entirely another when the offended harasses you and tries to -force- you to change your artwork just because they don't like her clothes or her hair style or her ethnicity or some other crazy shit like that. Like ...damn.
Some people, yeah?
Anyway, I love your work as always. Keep up the good work!

Wait, they're making Winnie the Pooh female? Who on earth asked for that? I don't think his personality would fit a female bear that well...doesn't matter anyway, WHYYY?
No one has demanded I change my art at all - not that I would anyway - but I've had almost no issues with anyone being vocal about being offended by my work. I just don't understand why there's this sudden push to change so many characters to appeal to what appears to be a non-existent demand for it. It honestly feels like a dumb attempt at reparations in some ways.Β

Huh, weird. How would we refer to him if he had no gender? It doesn't sound quite right grammatically to use "they" and "their" all the time, and I think those new terms like "ze/hir/zir" are just too...alien. But yes, Winnie the Pooh has been male for...92 years (!) and I never heard a single person complain until now.

Dharkness20 In reply to SnowSultan [2018-09-15 14:45:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I remember watching Winnie the Pooh when I was a child and I can't understand why; ESPECIALLY after 92 years, his being referred to as a 'he' is suddenly such a big problem. Like ...wtf? When I first heard about this shit, I desperately hoped against all reason that it couldn't possibly be true. Surely no one is THAT bleedingly stupid.
Sigh. I still hope it's some bullshit rumor, because I sure as hell do not want to see Winnie the Pooh get tampered with just because of some imbecile.

Yes, I understand. She's a lovely character and a little bit malicious. I like the way you created her expression.
Creating a new character can take also a lot of time, for example in my case for a simple character I spend about 5 hours to find the right face and body.

It took me years to come up with settings for Smacky that I'm happy with, but I wrote them down and since the new essential morph sets are just duplicates of old ones, the values carry over to new figures. Makes things a lot easier when updating to a new figure or when you lose content.

You're too modest, for my part, you are an example to me of how to reach the 2D realism with 3D with work and patience.
Thanks for your tutorials and artwork, it helps beginners like me to understand better the complex 3D world.

I couldn't agree more. It really irks me when people whine went a character is made white (i.e. Makoto from Ghost in the Shell portrayed by a white woman) but are perfectly fine if the character is non-white (i.e. Iron-Heart from Ironman).
Which is why I never understood why people get political over a single character or series. It's even worse when creators or studios wonder why this approach is looked down upon them and flat out insult people (using Gamergate as an excuse is one I always hear) for not excepting said concepts.
Me personally, I rather have good written characters and stories than some (arrogant, thoughtless) agenda shoved down my throat. And, of course, keep existing characters as is.

I agree, I am usually not a fan of race-bending popular characters (especially when it does not make sense, historically), just for pandering reasons.
Usually it does not matter (Ving Rhames made an awesome King Pin, Samuel L. id great as Nick Fury). Β
But if the character is supposed to be a Japanese cyborg or is from Norse Mythology, it makes sense to find an actor that fits.Β

Yeah I didn't really think of those two examples, guess it works in rare cares. Just today I heard rumors that they're considering the guy who played Killmonger in Black Panther to play Superman...I know, I know, he's a good actor and I shouldn't let this stuff get to me, but that's just...rghghg
