Alpha Vanguard is the VoH's first Reign Mech, six gargantuan robots designed to kill things and look rad using it. This is basically what happened when the Vanguard engineers got their hands on Pacific Rim. No, literally, that's how these things happened.

Unlike most of the later Reign Mechs, Alpha Vanguard is not piloted and is run by a T6 AI (advanced enough it may as well be a human brain).

You may ask yourself "what is the giant thing on its shoulder?" Let me answer that: A Railgun. A huge, literally confidence-crushing Railgun that can shoot down Light Battleships in orbit. Usually by disrupting the molecular structure and integrity in the blast area and causing the ship to literally crumble into two halves. It's a big gun, basically.
