Would it shock you if I said I was originally trying to draw a somewhat abstract portrait in weird color schemes on photoshop? XD I've never quite managed any type of decent portrait with any medium though.
The brown-ish orangey coloring was going to be the hair and was a partial layer on top of some other basic shapes I had down for the face. I kind of like playing around with the effects a bit much though, so when I couldn't quite get it the way I wanted I deleted the other layers and just messed around till it looked cool. Then I hid the orangey layer and went back to the base layer and did some bright red gradients before messing with the effects again on it too. Most of it for both of the layers was using the liquify effect then just blending and swirling and moving the colors around. When I thought the two looked cool and kind of fit together I flattened the image and "TaDa! Done!"
That being said, I probably wouldn't have thought it was half as cool, or posted it if I hadn't started trying to find creatures and odd random eyes and stuff in it. And the pink moniter lizard with the bowler hat was just the icing on the cake.
