As a naturalized Mexican who studied in the Midwest, I understand the feeling of "otherness" than academia can give you sometimes. It's hard, but I find it's rarely a matter of malice and more of a matter of ignorance. Still, it led you to shoot this wonderful photograph. It's very simple and to the point, which I like. I ended up embedding it in a post called "Beck vs Jesus" that talks about misconceptions about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I have the link to the main blog in my signature if you want to take a look at it.
Keep up the good work! I hope things turned out well for you.

So many Jews seem to be afraid of whom they are. We have all been blessed with a unique, Jewish soul; how can we not be proud of that? This picture is truly is wonderful.

"Although the word "jew" is not derogatory it just bothers me.
I feel like people are talking about ME, MY religion."- I know how can you feel... I'm living in Poland, it's not "Jew- friendly" country, and I often feel like you.

This is amazing. I can empathize with this. And the way your portrayed your idea both in an image and with words was incredible. Great work.

i can definitely identify with this. a good shot, though i'd suggest burning in aroudn the folds/joints in your hand a little, might make it more dramatic. duno.

ignorance and lack of interest the bain of everyones existance. to question that it didn't happen is just beyond me. sometimes i really do wonder how we haven't wiped ourselves off of the planet when collectively we're pretty dumb. but anyway enough of my rambling. i love this piece.

The arabs claim it never happened. An arab reported to actually popping pop corn and watching videos about the halocaust, laughing at what happened.
Great shot.

This is a very powerful portrait Erika. I did the holocaust in English, History and Art and though i'm not Jewish i know what you mean to an extent. It's horrifying to have to try and block out the significance of the event and the emotion attached to it in order to write different essays on it for my Higher School Certificate. That was 3 years ago and I still feel it. Icouldn't imagine what it be like for someone who is Jewish.
I respect you for having the courage to express it in this way.

Wonderful work of art! Great Job! Although I am not Jewish or religious for that matter I must commend you for the effect of your artistic expression. The lighting everything about it is perfect.
The sick and disturbed of the human race have made horrific and disgusting decisions like the holocaust. I am not sure how a society can be driven by so much hatred. It is the strength that you show in this work that testifies the unity of society. Some people may not think that the holocaust happened simply because it is almost inconceivable that humans can commit such a horrific and revolting task. Words can not describe the disgust to do this 1 person let alone to target an entire society. A shiver just went down my spine thinking about it. The Jewish philosophy has been strong enough to propel the faithful through the toughest and most trying times. My parents are Christian and I was born Christian myself but for many reasons I have renounced that ideology one of which was the great prejudice that they have against the Jewish society. I don't believe in religion in the conventional way as a matter of fact I am not sure I am qualified to say that I know who or what God is. I am humble and always try to do my best I am flawed because I am human but in the end if there is a God I can't imagine being condemned by him/her or what ever God is because I didn't worship in a church or a temple. I think that if I follow the basic principles of being good there is nothing else a benevolent God can ask of you. I can not subscribe to an ideology that condemns any belief that excels the human society positively to the future. I embrace the courage of the Jewish people, the success they have accomplished for the good of all society.
Great job on this photo an commentary you have made me think and it was good!
