The style of this is amazing. I'm sad to hear that your life is hard right now - but at least your creativity helps you to stay afloat.

I'm not sure if I should mention some of the weird anatomies of the characters, after all, they still look stylish. A bit awkward but still fitting to the overall theme of a weird, old-english kind of world with magic. Kinda fits in there to have some strange poses.
Other than that I love the way you shade your drawings. So very nice. Also, the way you only shade certain parts while others stay as simple lines. This really produces a nice, sketchy effect. I like that

Not long to go anymore. Gogogogogo you can do it

Before I give my real comment, I would like to know, are these just sketches? Or what would you call em?

sobbing-jester In reply to thisstufferguy [2015-10-18 22:26:45 +0000 UTC]

Haha a preview, I’m intruiged xD
Well, I think about how to illustrate the scene beforehand, sketch it and then ink it so the professional term for them would be..inked stuff?

thisstufferguy In reply to sobbing-jester [2015-10-19 17:55:27 +0000 UTC]

Well if you count them as inkings then here is my general review.
Anatomy is off in several instances across the board, most notably in panels 1 and 7 (the armsssss the elbowssssss) I am not aware if this is done for an aesthetic reason, maybe because Mr. Strange is a magic man but it stands.
Speaking of Mr. Strange the magic man, Dr. Strange be the sorcerer supreme this man stands no chance. ~
I ask the question of to whom Lady Pole is? as seen in panel 4, and if it is perhaps the poor lady shown in panel 3.
In panel 5 is that a mannequin? If not, he has a very woodlike texture to his body, and I'm curious as to why the image of beautiful superiority is wooden.

Stronger parts to these would be in the atmosphere development, the wooden desk the cards rest on in panel 6 and the windy/depressing mood of panel 2 being the most apparent to myself.
And the way you were able to make the depth show through the intensity of the ink was also noteworthy, my personal favorite being the hills in the background of panel 7.
They come together to make one hell of a highlight reel, and fit the presence of the book nicely. ~

I was so happy to see this long comment xD yeess critique lol
Oh they are mistakes, I noticed them while drawing but couldn’t fix them anymore ; v ; ink is unforgivable
Of course, but to be fair, Mr strange knows that he’s a newbie and tries to get better hehe

Lady pole is both of them, one in our world and one trapped in fairy~

ARGH that’s not good, I wanted to differentiate his skin color from the usual shading so I thought this would make it look more human and plastic…well at least woodlike is still pretty xD

Thank you very much, I try to capture the feeling of the book so that’s great to hear! I really appreciate you taking the time to write this review!

thisstufferguy In reply to sobbing-jester [2015-10-23 17:13:13 +0000 UTC]

Aye Ink is unforgiving, I honestly can't bring myself to ink sketches that I have done well, simply outa fear of ruining it!
Woodlike is still pretty yes, in a different way, but you did succeed in differentiating his skin color from he usual shading ;3

Oh I know, sketches always look better, like when you imagine your
drawing in your head, it always looks better because it’s not clearly
thought out and just an ideal version of what you wan to draw~

WanderingMogwai In reply to thisstufferguy [2015-10-21 00:16:37 +0000 UTC]

this is not a comment.  this is a critique.

thisstufferguy In reply to WanderingMogwai [2015-10-21 02:17:49 +0000 UTC]

However if I said only one at a time into a large string of comments the end result is the same, I would rather save everyone's time and put it all into a single box. (especially being that Jester comes on roughly once a week yet still upkeeps most comment threads and leaving them apart would result in much less coherent memory over the topics presented) However if Jester would like me to spare these critiques they have the power to both hide that and to tell me not to do so, but being that I have done thise multiple times in the past to appreciation for the more detailed thoughts I will continue to do this until requested otherwise. I do appreciate your correction on the technicalities of what this is, however being that it says "submit comment" I referred to it as such out of habit.

I was annoyed by the generally lacking quality comments that are so common on projects that people put so much effort in, so I desided I wouldn't become part of the "problem"(its one for me not neccesarily for others hence quotation marks).

I love your micro pictures by the way! Such quality must have taken much time and practice! I'm so busy leading my team these days I dont have enough time to practice anymore. :/

What kind of camera do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Lol don’t worry I can photoshop you, using photshop so that it looks like you are a master at photoshop (not really though XD) Photoshop doesn‘t always do what I want either, it has it‘s bitchy days o n o

StrangelyIsolated In reply to sobbing-jester [2015-10-21 13:32:45 +0000 UTC]

LOL that would be pretty amazing x:
But yeah, I totally agree.
Up until a couple of months ago I was using exclusively PaintTool SAI because when I started doing digital art Photoshop seemed so complicated and it intimidated me
but SAI seemed really intuitive to use and I was hooked after messing around with it for a couple days
Now though, I work with files that are too large (in width/height measurement and in file size) for SAI to handle LOL.

sobbing-jester In reply to StrangelyIsolated [2015-10-24 14:36:56 +0000 UTC]

OHHhh that’s too bad! I didn’t know that SAI can’t handle big files
But you go and beat that phtoshop down! Make it your bitch LOL

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StrangelyIsolated In reply to sobbing-jester [2015-10-24 15:20:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, SAI is only a 32 bit program so it has much smaller limits in comparison to Photoshop.
I think the canvas size limit was based on your own machine's performance but mine couldn't get bigger than I think 12,000 x 12,000 pixels
and typically my stuff has gotten too big
plus the memory usage thing is always at like 95% or higher when I use the maximum resolution so it was laggy as heck lmao.
Yess!  I will!   Gonna own this Photoshop!
