Description Random sketch and story! I might just leave this one as a sketch, I sorta like it that way. The angles were hard here, especially on Mufasa. It's a little wonky. XD

Anyways, this takes place after Mufasa's coronation as shown here (first half of the story is there too): [link]

The herds that had gathered to celebrate the rise of their new king were slowly dispersing. Ahadi and Uru had walked off together, for them it was a bittersweet day. Their chests swelled with pride for their eldest son, but as the sun had risen on Mufasa's time as king it had also set on Ahadi's. The great king had taken his bow with honor and assured Mufasa he would remain by his side for advice as long as he could. He reminded him of what he'd taught him as a cub, that even when the day came that he could no longer stand behind him physically he would always watch over him and always be there to guide him. The same heartfelt speech was never given to his other son.

Uru had begged her youngest to come to the coronation and for her sake, he did. But he felt forced and as usual, overlooked. Just a shadow behind his brother. He was the first to leave; although this was no surprise to Mufasa he was still concerned and hurt. He found him sulking in the shadows of Pride Rock as usual. Uru's words "the sun will rise on your time" echoed in Scar's mind. She had only tried to comfort him, but he knew there was no truth to her words.

"Scar." Mufasa's voice was deep and stern; he never seemed to greet him with the friendly tone he once had. For once long ago they were brothers, friends. Now it was almost as if he viewed Scar as a cub, someone to be talked down to and taught their place. Not that he didn't already know it; the constant reminders drove him mad.

"What do you want." Scar muttered, never moving to even so much as glance at him.

Mufasa frowned, "Why did you leave the ceremony so soon? The celebrations were just beginning..."

Scar stood at that and turned to walk towards Mufasa, sarcasm in his voice, "Oh were they? How dreadful. Did I miss your last mighty roar, or the elephants stomping their praise?" he frowned, "or perhaps I missed father giving another one of his speeches about how wonderful you are." he flicked his tail as he walked on past Mufasa.

Mufasa growled, spinning around. "Watch your attitude, Scar. And don't walk away from me when I'm talking! I'm the king now, learn some respect!"

Scar looked back at him, eyes narrowed, as if that point hadn't been driven home enough today "Do forgive me, your majesty...I had no idea."

Mufasa only growled deeper and moved closer, teeth bared. Scar raised an eyebrow and inched backwards, "Alright, I'm sorry. Mind your temper..." he seemed to warn, turning his head slightly as if to display the scar across his eye as a reminder. Mufasa frowned and moved away, taking a breath as he tried to calm himself. He had to maintain his composure, the entire kingdom was counting on him now.

"You drive me to it." Mufasa huffed, his gaze turned away. "I should be able to count on you as a brother, but you...you...I just don't know what to do with you anymore."

Scar's eyes widened a little at that, another reminder of what a burden he was. "Don't worry. I'll do my best to stay out of your way." he muttered. "Good day, your highness" He gave a sarcastic little bow before turning to walk away.

Mufasa didn't chase after him this time; only stood looking dumbfounded and hurt.

PS: For those that are wondering, in my version of the story it's Mufasa who gives Scar his scar, in a fit of emotional rage. Thus why Scar warns him to watch his temper and points out that scar. You can read more about that here: [link]

Poor Scar. His anger perpetuates his situation, but if the wise and fair Mufasa opened his damned eyes he could stop it. Guess pride was one thing that they both had in common.

Damn prideful lions XD At one point while writing this I thought of having Mufasa ask Scar if something was the matter, but I sorta doubt he ever did that (at least this far along into the story) He sure didn't seem to pick up on it in the movie so.

They originally were going to have him ask that in the movie but changed it. I can't remember the reason why. I think it was in that Art of the lion King book where I read it.

Aww...damn, I wonder if there's a cut scene anywhere. I doubt it...but I'd love to see how that might play out.

From what I can recall, Mufasa was to say "Is anything wrong?" after the "We didn't see you at Simba's presentation." It was removed because "it gave Scar an easy way out" or something like that. I think the writer's intent was to not allow Scar to vent to the audience directly to Mufasa because then you'd probably feel bad for him, but I think it did the opposite (for me at least) and showed what an uncaring ass Mufasa was, for being someone who seemed to value family so much.

Yeah, I agree. Mufasa comes across as an ass with anger management issues in that scene, not their intention I'm sure. I mean, if someone I cared about didn't show up to an important event when they were expected to be there my first thought would be "omg are they okay!?" D:

I think Mufasa knew full well why he didn't show up. The look on his face pretty much said he was just there to throw his weight around and make Scar say what he already knew. Real smart move to pour salt in wounds that probably were reopened when Simba was being presented. To be chosen over his brother, okay. To have it thrown in his face again and being flat out told "You'll never be king" essentially; over the line. It's kind of lame you only see Mufasa show any emotion other than contempt than when he needs Scar (clinging to the cliff). If I were Scar, I would have soaked that up like he did as well "Oh, so talk to me like a petulant cub until you need me? You really don't get it, nor do you deserve to call me brother!"

Now a line like that would have been fun to hear in the movie! But we can't have people thinking too much about the villain's feelings, or questioning that there may be more to him than meets the eye.

Oh no, but we must know it's okay to let others insult him behind his back, laugh about it, and then still command his respect of Mufasa when he doesn't even show him any!
