Description Usually I wouldn't upload miniatures to DA, as I know folks are waiting for our webcomic, but in this case I have to admit I'm actually too proud to resist this urge... Feedback appreciated!

As so many people left so many kind words, I've decided it might be a good idea to post the link to CMON. If you'd like to vote, feel free. Feedback appreciated even more over there!

And by the way, something I'd like to add:
My darling girlfriend (which might be in desperate need of some spanking) gave this hero of the Ultramarines the less fortunate name of...

This is pretty impressive! Like how you converted the hand to hold the shield.

SOCMaster In reply to ColonelYeo [2011-07-07 21:32:30 +0000 UTC]

That's actually wasn't that much work; the hand is from the new Sanguinary Guard sprue. ^^
But thanks anyway

Epistolarius [2011-05-15 10:09:26 +0000 UTC]

awesome conversion! really love the composition and the layering of colors on the cape...

and your girlfriend is kind of right..

Which is sad, right? ^^
Thanks a lot, friend.
Love that kind of feedback - sadly, I ruined the model a while ago - tried to give it another base and had a few accidents

Zeredek [2011-04-06 04:25:02 +0000 UTC]

Why does he have a Crux Terminatus?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOCMaster In reply to Zeredek [2011-04-06 10:57:13 +0000 UTC]

First, it's part of the model (c.f. Masters of the Chapter box), second, because he's a former terminator sergeant and third, because captains just need to have 'em.
Would you like to have a greenhorn as your leader? ^^

Soul-Daemon [2010-12-04 04:40:17 +0000 UTC]

is that the chapter master who normally holds his helmet in a powerfist, it looks like a whole new model with the shield. very cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOCMaster In reply to Soul-Daemon [2010-12-04 09:38:03 +0000 UTC]

That's what I wanted to achieve ^^
That helmet-holding powerfist is cool, no doubt about that, but if you get to see something too often, it gets time for new ideas. That's where the shield came to my mind ^^

Thanks!
Took me a while to paint it - and I followed Matt Parkes tutorial published some time ago in a German White Dwarf.

WOAH! Nice one... But i would like it more if he wears a helmet... but paintjob looks very good.

SOCMaster In reply to Chaplain-Seraphi [2010-11-30 19:01:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I originally planned to give him a helmet, but I thought it would be way too static. Besides, a helmet could never make him look as stoic as he does right now.

TheChosenDarkAngel [2010-11-22 18:58:46 +0000 UTC]

wow just amazing.... the stance, the paintjob, the details.... I can't find anything else beside amazing.... and WHAT THA F**K..... but that was the first thing I said
this isn't a model that can be bought this way right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOCMaster In reply to TheChosenDarkAngel [2010-11-22 19:52:43 +0000 UTC]

Why, you can buy this model, but not with the equipment I gave it.
[link]
This is the model the conversion is based upon - I used an old metal storm shield and a head from the plastic terminator sprue.

And besides: thanks a lot!

TheChosenDarkAngel In reply to SOCMaster [2010-11-22 20:28:45 +0000 UTC]

okay... never seen the model, not on GW or FW at least.... it is a nice conversion that's for sure.

SOCMaster In reply to TheChosenDarkAngel [2010-11-22 20:39:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure you must have seen it. It's quite a popular miniature. In fact, I'm quite happy noone so far complained because of the "boring" conversion. ^^
But it really makes me happy my effort is rewarded by rendering it unrecognizable :-D

The top left one.

TheChosenDarkAngel In reply to SOCMaster [2010-11-22 20:44:20 +0000 UTC]

yeah you're right, I have but it is really unrecognizable. Sir I bow to your greatness of changing so little and making the impact of the model so great. Bravo!*aplauds*

SOCMaster In reply to TheChosenDarkAngel [2010-11-22 20:48:36 +0000 UTC]

As a student of english literature, I suppose I ought to be able to come up with a pun or something, but instead of complaining that I can't help but finding a faint trace of irony in this comment of yours, I'd like to say something much more trivial:

*blush*

^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheChosenDarkAngel In reply to SOCMaster [2010-11-23 19:17:29 +0000 UTC]

First of all.... I really mean what I said.... it is a great model and although it wasn't altered that much, it seems really different.
Second, irony isn't my thing althought, I can't find what is troubling you about my comment

SOCMaster In reply to TheChosenDarkAngel [2010-11-25 10:23:43 +0000 UTC]

Don't think I meant to insult you. I just had that weird feeling - I think it might be due to the fact that english isn't my first language. I might just have gotten you wrong. oO

SOCMaster In reply to InvictusSanguis [2010-11-22 20:35:02 +0000 UTC]

Österreicher? Kein Problem, ich als Deutscher spreche auch Deutsch
Man könnte darauf kommen, dass du GW-Mitarbeiter bist, wenn du die Ultramarines anpreist. Und dafür würden dich manche sicher flamen ^^

Translation (yes, it is impolite to write comments not everyone can read):
Austrian? No proble, as a German I speak German, too
One might assume that if you praise Ultramarines, you might be a GW staff member. And some people would surely flame you for that ^^

Nice photo, nice clean paintjob that fits the character. I really like the gold here. Also, the subtle conversion work is delish, as Jamie Oliver would say.
The face is awesome.

The red on the cloak is another very nice part of it. Good job, indeed!

SOCMaster In reply to ShadowEngine [2010-11-22 13:00:02 +0000 UTC]

Merci. ^^
But to be honest, I'm not too sure about the photography. Took me ages and almost 50 shots to get where I wanted to be, and I'm not too happy with the overall result after all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowEngine In reply to SOCMaster [2010-11-22 18:45:21 +0000 UTC]

Well it's 49 more shots than I would have tried ^^ and it is very tricky photographing minis.

SOCMaster In reply to ShadowEngine [2010-11-22 20:40:05 +0000 UTC]

Aye, that's true. If there are two things about wargaming, painting and conversions, it's priming and taking pics of the finished piece... It's annoying!

I LOVE the way you painted the backpack. I should have thought of painting the crown and exhausts a different colour than the bottom. Truly epic miniature you have there

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOCMaster In reply to Teh-Ossim-Dood [2010-11-22 05:45:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I took an old backpack for inspiration; back in these days, they used to pay 'em like that. It's quite a pity they discontinued the idea.

Teh-Ossim-Dood In reply to SOCMaster [2010-11-22 22:39:48 +0000 UTC]

That's too bad, there should be way more like this!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOCMaster In reply to Teh-Ossim-Dood [2010-11-25 11:00:46 +0000 UTC]

Aye... They discarded many good ideas. It's the same with the website - back then, you were able to order single sprues and bits. And today? Awesome bits packs? Ha! Who needs half a dozen force weapons?
*sigh*
But that's what we got bitz shops for. ^^
