i.
you can close your eyes and count the stars and
find where they connect to draw a face years
older than yours; this weary gaze is turning
in for the night but it won't turn away from you

ii.
just please forget the taste of melancholy goodbyes
and words we haven't said; keep your tongue wrapped
around the flavors of boisterous laughs and every
"i love you" that lingers in this stubborn atmosphere

iii.
and you no longer need these wizened hands to
hold you up and hold your balance on these rocks;
these tired bones are folding themselves in; keep them
in the back of your mind and they'll keep you standing

iv.
if you forget the smell of pick-up dinners and library
pauses you're saving yourself; keep the scent of
crows feet smiles and i-remember-when stories and
every gust of off-the-lake air you breathed into your lungs

v.
so drown out this play list of regrets and avoidance you
have blaring in your ear drums and listen to the cacophony
of potential and things left to be discovered; when the
noise gets too loud i will still be here waiting in the silence

vi.
in case you begin to forget all the ways that you used to
see taste feel smell hear me i am beyond the clouds and
in the stars and in your heart and tucked inside the nuances
of your senses and missing you terribly in every sense
