Description Hello there. This is SofiaBlythe2014. So, Amphibia finally came out. It's a show created by Matt Braly, who worked on Gravity Falls and Big City Greens. It's a show about a girl named Anne Boonchuy being transported to a magical world of frogs called Amphibia. There's definitely a lot of potential as shown in just the first few episodes. Let's talk about them right now.

1. Anne Or Beast

Writers : Matt Braly & Jack Ferraiolo

Director: Bert Youn

Dates:

June 14, 2019 (YouTube, Disney Now)

June 17, 2019 (tv)

Synopsis : "Anne is transported to Amphibia."

Our first episode is definitely an interesting one. This episode has Sprig, his sister Polly, and their grandfather Hop Pop going to a store in town. Hop Pop tells Sprig to stay put, but he leaves anyway, and runs into a "monster". Said monster is a human girl named Anne Boonchuy, who found herself mysteriously transported to Amphibia by a magic music box . However, since no one has ever seen a human before, they think she's a monster. What makes the episode is the friendship that Anne and Sprig develop, which helps get across a message on sticking with each other and trusting your instincts. Sprig is shown to be rather reckless and impulsive, particularly with some of the damage he causes, but he's also shown to have some high moral standards. While initially scared of her, they befriend each other, and sticks up for her when everyone thinks she's a monster. Anne is also pretty good. She's shown to be quite resourceful and rather friendly. However, she's also somewhat cynical, notably due to having been lost for days on end with no way out, and even once leaves Sprig to be eaten by a monster. Again, it's made clear that she's simply trying to survive. At the end of the episode, the two giant monsters attack, but she and Sprig step in to save the day. While it takes some time, everyone does come to like and respect them , ending this in a strong note.

2. Best Fronds

Writers : Matt Braly & Jack Ferraiolo

Director: Derek Kirk Kim

Dates:

June 14, 2019 (YouTube, Disney Now)

June 17, 2019 (tv)

Synopsis : "Anne and Sprig go to the lake."

Here's an episode that gives off a good summer vibe. Let's talk about it. This episode has Anne and Sprig wanting to go to the lake to cheer her up when she misses her home life. However, Hop Pop says no due to the dangerous creatures that are there. They sneak out anyway, and while it starts fun, things take a sour turn when they run into a lake monster. This episode is essentially dedicated to showing how different Anne and Sprig are when it comes to friendship, while also showing how they're true friends. It's a good message on accepting your friends for who they are even with their differences. Anne is shown to have a "I get what I want mentality", particularly in how Sprig backs out of the lake at one point , and forces him to stay. The mentality is somewhat skewed, but not without reason. We see how, back in the human world, she was forced by her "friends", Sasha and Marcie, to steal the music box from an antique store. She was clearly uncomfortable with this, thus showing she doesn't want to succumb to peer pressure. Contrast this with Sprig, who at least is more prone to being independent regardless of what others say. Plus, he's at least shown to make the effort to help her. The ending seals this. He gets himself eaten by the monster, and gives him hot peppers he had earlier in order to get him to leave. She's also shown being fiercely defensive in getting him out. They then sneak back home and just chill out together. It's really mellow.

3. Cane Crazy

Writer : Adam Colas

Director: Derek Kirk Kim

Date: June 18, 2019

Synopsis : "When Anne breaks Hop Pop’s favorite cane, she and her friends set out to replace it."

I impart this wisdom unto you. Be careful with what you do. Cryptic joke aside, let's do this. This episode involves Anne accidentally breaking Hop Pop's cane when she goofs around with it. She, Sprig, and Polly then set out to replace it with another cane made with the same bark from the Tree Of Doom. It's easier said than done though. This episode has a pretty simple moral: "Own up to your mistakes and respect authority. At the same time, don't over do things." Using Anne and Hop Pop for this message works well. Anne doesn't exactly act the nicest to Hop Pop, though its kept to a believable degree. She initially makes fun of his cooking since it's not that suited for humans, but it's all just light hearted ribbing that simply goes too far. Hop Pop is cranky, but considering how he's the family breadwinner, it's not unjustified of him to think this way. As it turns out, in the end, he only said for her to move out if she didn't show more respect simply because he doesn't want to be a bad parental substitute. It helps how this comes after Anne confesses how she couldn't fix the cane. Him letting her wash dishes for a month end a things on a responsibly nice note.

4. Flood, Sweat, And Tears

Writer: Gloria Shen

Director: Derek Kirk Kim

Date: June 18, 2019

Synopsis : "When Anne’s bedroom floods, she and Sprig must bunk together."

Grab your sleeping bags everyone. It's time to tell a story. This episode has Anne's room being flooded by river water, and it'll take some time to clean it out. She then decides to room with Sprig thinking that it'll just be easy swimming. It starts out fine, but then things get a bit sour when they have trouble adjusting due to their habits and physiologies. This episode has a nice moral on being honest with your feelings , and not letting things bottle up. Anne and Sprig get across this message well. Anne is a somewhat insensitive roommate, but it works. Her behavior in trying to adjust inadvertently causes Sprig to feel uncomfortable , particularly in getting cold from a continually open window. This is given a slide since she's not completely aware of a frog's physiology , and is trying to contain her feelings since she doesn't want him to feel bad. Sprig is also in top form. While he has a reckless streak, it still works since he mainly applies it to any exciting adventures, while he just wants to do his own thing without problem given how independent he is. He too is sympathetic since he still wants to be seen as understanding. When they both sneak out to fix the leak, they both feel bad for not being able to get along, but as Hop Pop said, communicating actually helped out. In the end, she gets the couch while they still communicate with a can phone. It's nice .

5. Hop Luck

Writers : Matt Braly & Jack Ferraiolo

Director: Bert Youn

Date: June 19, 2019

Synopsis : "To win a village cooking contest, Anne leads the family on a quest to make pizza."

It's time to get cooking. Let me describe the recipe for success with this episode. This episode involves the town pot luck festival, but the Plantar family keeps losing every year and has to do spend a night in the Shame Cage. Anne decides to help them out by gathering ingredients for a pizza, while Hop Pop feels they should stick with traditional family recipes. They then go on this quest, but it proves dangerous. The main moral of the episode is about embracing new traditions while not forgetting old traditions. There's also a tangential moral on not getting too risky with your ambitions. Using Anne and Hop Pop for this message works well. Anne is shown to be rather upfront in wanting to get the ingredients for pizza, but it's not without reason. She's more accustomed to human culture, hence why she wants to make Amphibia feel at least a little more familiar like home. It's just that she's so stubborn that she almost gets them in danger each time. To her credit, she at least puts forth the effort to get the ingredients rather than relying on others to do it for her. Hop Pop is still likable too. While also stubborn about tradition, he at least has the knowledge about the area to make it work. The episode does acknowledge both sides of the issue, particularly at the end. They all end up inside the belly of a tomato plant monster, and Anne accidentally drops the ingredients in the acidic stomach. They then eat their way out thanks to Hop Pop's book, and get a tomato for his froggy dish. While they still lose, it's still seen as a step up from the family's other dishes. It's bittersweet in the right way.

6. Steakout

Writer: Michele Cavin

Director: Bert Youn

Date: June 19, 2019

Synopsis : "Sprig wants Anne and Hop Pop to get along, so he tricks them into going on a stakeout."

Right off the bat, this episode is weird. It's still good though. This episode has Anne and Hop Pop not seeing eye to eye with each other. Sprig then decides to send them on a steakout to find a fake corn creature. They do seem to make some progress, but when they drink each other's drinks, they start seeing hallucinations in a trippy environment, and think Sprig is the corn creature. Yeah, this just got all anime - esque. It at least balances out with a message on seeing eye to eye with those you disagree with. Using Anne and Hop Pop for this message works well. Both of them have their own stubborn pride, but go about it in different ways that still remembers to keep them likable. Anne isn't doing the best job with the chores, and she acts up when he scolds her, but it works here. She doesn't want to be seen as weak in an unfamiliar world, but because she's more used to modern amenities, she acts out when things go wrong. Hop Pop does have a tendency to scold her when she messes up, but it's not without reason. He's more used to others being self sufficient with their work, particularly with Sprig and Polly, even when they act out. The ending is also of note. It's a surprisingly epic action scene, yet also highlights how they care for each other since they were willing to beat up the monster since they thought the other was in danger. We have a nice conversation ending things in a good way.

7. The Domino Effect

Writers : Gloria Shen & Jeff Trammell

Director: Derek Kirk Kim

Date: June 20, 2019

Synopsis : "Anne wants to keep a caterpillar as a pet, but she’ll have to keep it a secret from Hop Pop."

Here's an interesting episode to apply to pet lovers. This episode involves Anne and Sprig finding a cat like caterpillar in the woods. Anne decides to keep her and make her Domino 2 (since her cat back home is named Domino). Since Hop Pop doesn't like pets in the house, Anne decides to care for her in secret. Things go from bad to worse when Domino 2 is revealed to be a monster that eats frogs. Yeah, things definitely get strange and intense. It's all tied together with a moral on knowing proper pet care, and knowing when you're not ready for one yet. Anne best showcases this message. The thing here is that she's not a bad pet owner by any means. She does take care of Domino 2 fairly well. Her not being unaware of what kind of creature she is works in this situation since she's more overtly cute, hence letting her guard down. Plus, she immediately goes to their defense when they're about to be eaten. She gets Domino 2 to leave with a toy mouse, showcasing her skills. She then fully confesses, and Hop Pop mentions he did the no-pets rule since he lost his own pet. It's simple, yet right to the point.

8. Taking Charge

Writers : Matt Braly & Jack Ferraiolo

Director: Bert Youn

Date: June 20, 2019

Synopsis : "After one of the Plantars mysteriously runs out the charge on Anne’s phone, the family embarks on a mission to try and recharge it."

Here's an episode that definitely speaks to millennials. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but lets still talk about it. This episode has Anne showing the Plantar family Survival Island, her favorite show that she downloaded before coming to Amphibia. Hop Pop says he doesn't like it, unlike his kids, finding it unentertaining. When her phone runs out of power since some one apparently watched all the episodes, they have to charge it up with electricity from Zapapedes. This episode gives an interesting moral on not being afraid to admit you like something, even if it's something you said you disliked. Hop Pop best shows this message. He's known for being stubborn and prideful when sticking to old fashioned traditions. He shows hypocrisy in enjoying the show behind their backs, but it works. He wants to be able to set an example by showcasing authority. What gets him to straighten out? It's the fact that they're almost in danger . He admits his mistakes, and the phone gets fully charged. They then happily watch the show.

This show definitely has a lot going for it. Lets see what happens.

Am I The Only one who wants to see more of Marcie; What kind of a Toxic Influence on Anne she was; Where on Amphibia she landed; Whether she was even worse than Sasha, or if she ACTUALLY was the lesser of two evils, in accordance to how SHE treated Anne. . . and How being in Amphibia could've had an effect on her; such as Anne becoming a Better Person; and Sasha becoming even more of a Sociopathic & more Contemptible Girl
