Description Hello there. I'm SofiaBlythe2014. Today I'm going to talk about a new Disney Junior show called Puppy Dog Pals. The show is created by comedian Harland Williams and focuses on two puppies named Bingo and Rolly who go on all sorts of adventures. Today I will review the episodes that aired yesterday, and show you how great this series is.

1. Hawaii Pug-Oh

Writer: Harland Williams

Director: Scott Bern

Date: April 14, 2017

Synopsis: "Bingo and Rolly travel to Hawaii to get Bob some sand for his feet."

A good pilot helps set up the basic ideas for any show, which is done flawlessly. The episode involves Bingo and Rolly going to Hawaii to get sand for their owner Bob's feet in order to grant his wish, so to speak. However, that have a problem with getting the sand home. This episode has a great establishment of Bingo and Rolly's dynamic. Bingo is shown to be a natural born leader with a flare for intelligence. Rolly is more on the slow side, but he's laid back and fun loving. Why am I saying this? It's because of the moral on using your resources wisely. Rolly's attempts to dig for fun gets them involved in a surfing contest, and they carry the sand home in the trophy. When they drop the trophy at home while still full of sand, Bingo has the bright idea to use the sand that dropped on them, and give it to him. It's these little touches that make this a great way to start the series.

2. A. R. F.

Writer: Bob Smiley

Director: Trevor Wall

Date: April 14, 2017

Synopsis: "Bob gets a robot dog designed to clean messes."

Subversion is a useful tool in the Arsenal of writing an episode, and here is how it's used strongly. The episode involves Bob inventing a robot dog named ARF to keep the pups and Hissy (the cat) occupied while he's at work. However, things get bad since he's only designed to clean the pups' mess, meaning that any other messes made have to be cleaned up before Bob gets back. Let's look at the subversion checklist and see what the episode accomplished. The pups' taking advantage of ARF is because they're innocently insensitive, and they actually look out for him. As for ARF, instead of being an idiot, he's just naive and slightly ditzy. His loyalty helps keep him in balance. This leads to our moral: Act smart, and don't shirk responsibility. Considering the pups do eventually clean up their mess the fun way, I'd say the message comes across strongly.

3. The French Toast Connection

Writer: Brendan Duffy

Director: Stephanie Arnett

Date: April 14, 2017

Synopsis: "Bingo and Rolly travel to France to get Bob some French toast."

This is one of those things where I have to spoil the punchline to show why it's great. Let's start. The episode involves Bob unhappy about not having bread to create French toast. The pups travel to France to get more bread, but discover that the bread is also missing. The first half of the episode has plenty of wacky hijinks, but it really shines in the second half. It's time for our moral of the day kiddies: Gather the facts and don't jump to assumptions. It's fairly standard, but it works here. There are a few scenes where the pups here the baker give clues as to who stole the bread, but they don't hear the whole story. It turns out some pigeons stole it since they prefer bird seed over bread crumbs, and they don't want to eat bread crumbs. It's a situation that works since there's a good amount of naivety on each side since their behavior is more out of desperation, and they get the results they want after listening to the other side and cooperating. Little details like this make it all worthwhile.

4. Take Me Out To The Pug Game

Writer: Sean Coyle

Director: Scott Bern

Date: April 14, 2017

Synopsis: "The pugs chase Bob's baseball throughout the city."

How do use the past to help you in the present? Use this episode as an example. The episode involves Bob going to watch a baseball game on tv. While playing around, Bingo and Rolly accidentally throw his prized baseball out the window from a game he attended as a kid. Now they have to get it back before he gets home. Here's where the nostalgia part comes in. The episode gives a little bit of history on baseball provided by our good friend Bullworth, who's been to these games all his life. He uses his knowledge of the area and of the game to help guide the pups in finding their ball. He does give off a nice, wise vibe that makes this feel right. It also helps that the pups' throwing out the ball was out of impulse and naivety, not stupidity. It's just lots of fun. What more can I say?

Puppy Dog Pals is a cute and quirky show that I'm sticking around with. I definitely recommend it.
