Tribute: Matthew Lillard, the voice of Shaggy, turns 46 today. This film is the first time he voiced Shaggy, so the review will dedicate that. Enjoy.

Many people think of the 2010s as an animation renaissance, and I can agree with them. There are a few factors I believe play a part in it, and I think this movie is one of them. The gang goes to Wherlin Merlin Magic Academy to see Velma's younger sister Madelyn when they hear about a Griffon attack at the school. Now the gang has to figure out who did it. This movie pays extensive homage to the Harry Potter franchise, and it truly captures the magical spirit of the film. There's a lot of wonder and amazement with all the various magic acts and plenty of suspenseful moments, most of it coming from the Griffon. The mystery is very investing, with the culprit not being obvious, whether it's Mr. Curdles trying to get the castle for his business or Amos the groundskeeper who seems to know more than he lets on. We also get some nice side plots with Shaggy growing a bond with Madelyn and Daphne trying to impress Fred when he falls for a magician's assistant named Crystal. The humor in the movie is very sharp, and the twist makes sense in context. I call it a very good movie.
