Synopsis: "Arlo asks Bertie to watch Jeromio."

Here's an episode that's very much about horror, and it's done very well. The episode has Arlo asking Bertie to look after Jeromio while he's away. She's reluctant to do it, but goes ahead with it anyway. However, he acts very strangely and freaks her out. The episode goes for a solid message on how you should take the time to find out why someone is acting weird. Let's break this down.

First Half:

Things start out calmly when Bertie is shown to briefly sing a song as it rains outside, but then her guitar breaks. She freaks out when seeing Jeromio on the couch and tries to gently move him out of the way, but he slobbers a lot. At least this shows how she's willing to try and make him comfortable. She's just also thinking about her own well being and doesn't want to be uncomfortable. She starts to sing about him as a way to cheer him up, but gets freaked out when Arlo comes by. He thinks a brand new friendship is opening when he thinks they're getting along, but Bertie says she's uncomfortable around frogs. She says that if he's going to be on the couch, he should have a coaster under him, which he obliges to. These moments really show how they have a good bond. Bertie isn't really fond of Jeromio, but still tries to make sure he's happy. Arlo is a little naive, but when her conditions are laid out, he does try to take her feelings into account. It's nice. It's where where he asks her to watch him while he's going with Ansel to Hawaii to wait out the storm. That's definitely unusual, but we see he doesn't even know what the place is, so it's just him being naive. She's unsure of this given this gross frog thing, which she's not fond of. Arlo says how he's cuddly and goes off with Ansel, thus leaving her with him. She says that she's never looked after a pet, and he says that she should remember to feed him since he'll otherwise get hangry (hungry and angry). It seems simple enough. However, when he tries to say one more thing by flapping his arms, she can't hear him over the horn blaring. Well this is going to get chaotic.

Pet sitting is not as easy as she thought it would be. She tries to sing a song, but then he starts rolling his eyes 180 degrees, and she gets freaked out. Yeah since he's just randomly doing this for no explanation and since she likes a sense of normalcy, she would feel uneasy. She turns on the TV for him, showing how she at least wants him to be comfortable. Then he leans back as if to say something, and she's freaked out and goes to her room. Yikes! Bertie tries to play music in her room, but she keeps seeing frog eyes everywhere, really letting the stress get to her. She sees water flowing into her room, and thinks there's a flood. It's actually Jeromio drooling while he's hanging from the ceiling. Well, that's gross, but it's at believable in context. He obviously wants something from her, but can't really communicate because of how lackadaisical he is. She tries to play it cool because of this. When he smacks his lips, she thinks that he's hangry.

Second Half:

She decides to make him some tomato and lettuce sandwiches. He doesn't really give the best response. He eats the lettuce and spits out the tomatoes, and he keeps crawling to her and croaking. Yeah this is getting creepy. The power keeps going out and he keeps moving around to various places, which definitely heightens the horror feel to this scenario. She tries to remember what Arlo said, and recalls how he flapped his arms. He jumps onto her back, and she freaks out, accidentally falling on a rolling pin and sending him on top of the stove. He inadvertently starts up the stove and casts a large demonic looking shadow, which freaks her out. Yeah this just went from a pet sitting adventure to a haunted house adventure. This would definitely freak her out since it seems like she's going to be killed just for trying to take care of him. At the same time, you can tell he's not trying to scare her. He's just acting out of desperation because of how he wants to say something to her. She's too scared to take the time to find out what he wants.

He accidentally sends out various knives, but she dodges them all, though she gets hit by a whisk. At least this part was just mildly inconvenient. She sees him on top of the stairs and tries to escape, but he encases the door in drool and locks her in. The hurricane gets worse, causing everything to get out of whack. It's a good representation of how he feels emotionally drained, and is raging all around because of it. It's pretty sad to say the least. She sees a feather duster and prepares to defend herself. He starts drooling onto the TV, and has her in a corner. This is really a horror movie. And then it happens. He then crawls onto her leg and starts crying while hugging her. He just wanted a hug from her, a form of affection. She sees he's sad, and though not liking his drool, tries to hug him. This helps explain why he was being so persistent. He feels lonely and couldn't properly convey it. He was being desperate to get some kind of physical affection. She sees that he just wanted a hug, and sings him a lullaby about the clouds passing by and the sad feelings going away soon. It's a really sweet moment that shows how nice she is. She may have been too quick to think he was a threat, but seeing that he just wanted some love, she wastes no time in comforting him. She's all about using what she likes to help others, which is nice to see. The storm clears up and Arlo comes back home. He sees Bertie taking care of Jeromio, and she finds out that he responds really well to hugs. She then says he thought he was trying to kill her, but Arlo says that's not the case and the others are dead, which shocks her. Yeah that's an odd joke to end on, but it's still funny. I like this one.
