Our perfect predator. Just think about it. The homo sapiens no longer has the natural predator, but we did have tree when we were just tree climbing monkeys. The first being the big cats that climb, second is birds of pray and the third, as well as the biggest one, is a snake. Snakes are probably responsible for our good eyesight, by the way. Now, you combine the three predators together and you get a dragon.

While there are many theories about why are there dragons (very similar in design to each other) all over the world and in lots of different cultures, and I think this one is my favorite.
