Description A crocheted Kakapo, modelled mostly after Sirocco.
He is life size and poseable in wings and legs.
I used 3 threads of differently coloured wool and a 4mm hook to crochet the body. The other parts are mostly 2 threads and the bill only one. The poseable parts are Aluminium wire, bamboo skewers and clear tape. For balance a bag of wood pellet cat litter was used in the posterior. The eyes are buttons with cotton over them and painted with acrylics. The wool was mostly 100% acrylics, one ball was actual wool.
He took me about 20 to 30 hours to complete.

Thank you ^_^ He's one of my special creations, and was very difficult to make, so I'm not very willing to let go of him. I'm still amazed at how small he looks in this picture, while he's actually life size.

Well actually, crochet is very simple, you basically only need to know a few things and you'll be crocheting ^_^ give it a go, also a hook and a ball of wool easily fit in your handbag when you're out and about, so you can practice everywhere. I would advise starting with a nice big hook, like a 4mm and search Youtube for a tutorial, there are many. I hope I convinced you ^_^

Great proportions and shaping - he really does have the appearance of the real thing. Fantastic use of different wools as well to achieve the feathered look. He was worth every hour

Thanks again ^_^
Well so many people upload to DA that things get missed easily. Especially since I live in Scotland and upload things when the USA is asleep or at work
DA groups FTW
