a very pretty piece...i like the color and motif employed here, it has a real "angel of the harvest"(or angel of death,if you will)feel to it..usually when i see that type of thing it's dark and not as happy as this is...or maybe i've missed the point here...in any case it is beautiful work.

If you read the Book of Ruth in the Bible, you'll understand the symbolism
Each piece in the series has a primary colour for the angel and I've used the complimentary colour for the background etc.

I really like the way her wings fold into a heart shape. And with the shafts of wheat, and the golden coloring... it really speaks to me of demeter, who is very much a motherhood figure, and is wonderful as a gift for your mother. I'm sure she'll love it.

If you're familiar with the Book of Ruth, then you'll understand the symbolism of the wheat and the heart shape of her wings. Haven't shown it to Mom yet as I just finished it a little bit ago. I guess should give her a call and let her know it's done, huh?

I'm not familiar with it at all. But I do like the fact that even if you're not familiar with it... the symbolism is still clear, and easily recognizable, even to those who don't know the full story behind it.
(can you tell I'm tired of people doing obscure symbolism that no one gets?)

With this series, I've purposefully used complimentary colours. A lot of the shading on the figure is actually done with light glazes of purple beneath the yellow.
