What do you mean by internet event? If you mean limited-time stuff given to anyone through mystery gift if they just connect, yeah, kinda
I have an event Torchic with Speed Boost, at least I hope so...
But I never know when there's an event in a store or some other public place, like, are those store-specific events even really a thing globally or just in some countries?
And even if I had an idea where an event is and when, it feels embarrassing being some only adult asking for a pokemon in a public place since I haven't seen a single other adult who owns a 3ds in my life so far
So yeah... I don't ever get limited event pokemon because I don't know how

I'd say it depends how determined you are for one
I mean, this year is the year of mythical Pokemon, right now you can go ahead and download a Manaphy via internet.
Just go check on sites like Serebii for events and updates, I do all the time.
They're in most countries, a few end up being special to certain countries only, japan getting the most, lol
I still go into store and ask about event Pokemon. No one is going to think much of it. You're pretty much in and out in mere seconds.

I already have a Celebi from when Pokemon Bank was released and I had the free pass and a Mew from way back when I played Pokemon Ranch way back (a wii pokemon storage, basically)

How do the codes work, by the way? Are the codes only usable once by a single person and where do they reveal codes?

Ahaha, saddly the codes require you to go to a game store, depends which the country has. America goes to gamestop, us brits go to GAME, anywhere else you have to check online, serebii usually knows.
Its kinda a weird bad gimmick tbh. I mean, if they give the codes out online then it works fine.
But what we're supposed to do for these ones is get a code from a store, take it home, connect to the internet, get the gift via code, and then you get to download it. So pretty stupid really. It's basically combining the two common ways to get an event Pokemon.
You can only use one code per game, and once the code is used it will no longer be redeemable. So if you get two codes, you can only use both if you have two separate games.
The worst part though?
There's only a set amount of codes in each store.
Apparently a lot of people were mad at Nintendo for the Mew event, not handing out enough codes and letting people get them in bulk. It's basically the amiibo thing again. Best bet is to get a code early in the month for a chance.

Say you got a code, you use it, and thats it. It's not like you can use the same code to get an infinite number of event Pokemon.
If you have two codes, you can only use one per game.
If you downloaded a Mew via code on say, Alpha Sapphire, it wouldn't let you use another Mew code that's tied to the same event.
But if you have Alpha Sapphire and say Pokemon Y, you can download a Mew to each game.
