Actually, that was the impression I got from the two last chapters - whilst Mads and Tsu were quarreling and measuring whose medical jutsu is better, which generation is superior, etc, etc (insert rant here

That's indeed a good question... I think it goes together with other traditional and unsolvable matters like, let's say, why villains are allowed to speak long, epic monologues by good guys, or why groups of enemies always attack the hero, who is all alone, politely one by one...
*reads the last two lines* Oh my, you know me so well... I wonder how it can be possible. ;-P
