Definitely looks a lot like the reference.
The hair swirl is an interesting feature, the lines look pretty smooth too.
You should consider getting a few backgrounds drawn out and using those since these characters are often in either plains or savanna. That's typically what I do.

Very true. If the background is really good then I keep it. But usually it doesn't take me too long to do savannah type backgrounds. Rocks on the other hand, can sometimes be a pain!
