- " Ciel, play with me I'm bored... " you whined next to the young boy who only rolled his blue eye in exasperation.

- " (Y/N), go away, I'm busy right now " he groaned while passing a hand through his hair and you huffed indignantly. " Plus, what is the principal reason for you to be here? Don't you have work to do too? "

- " Yes, but I don't want to do it right now... " you said, looking at your nails and the boy sweatdropped at your words. " Come on! Let's play a game! "

Ciel facepalmed and sighed in frustration. The fact you were stubborn wasn't helping him at all in this kind of situation. He accepted to play a game with you, not because he wanted to please you, but the Earl of the Phantomhive Estate known that you could burn down the manor (and knowing Sebastian‚ he didn't think that his butler would appreciate this to rebuilt it one more time).

Even if you look like his age‚ you were pretty much older than him (and by that‚ you mean thousand of years). Just like Sebastian‚ you were a demon‚ but compared to his age and skills/strengh‚ you were younger and weaker. The Earl could clearly remember the day he first met you, like it was yesterday.

*FLASHBACK*

- " It has been three weeks already that a certain amount of people died or disappeared in curious way... " muttered Ciel, looking outside by the window of his office. Sebastian stood next to him with an expression void of emotions.

- " Young master, did her Majesty gave any special order about this problem? " smirked Sebastian with a glint in his eyes that only Ciel recognized and the boy sighed. " Does the Queen's Guard Dog will do something about it? "

- " Sebastian, I order you to find me any information as much you can get on this case "

- " Yes, my Lord "

Many hours later, the butler returned from his task with a piece of paper. At this, the young boy stared at his butler in disbelief and incomprehension. Usually, Sebastian would come back with tone of papers with information on it but it was the first time that he sees something like that.

- " It seems that every `murder` were committed in an abandoned building and the killer always uses a knife or a sharp weapon to cut down its victims... " told Sebastian.

- " And that's all? " asked Ciel.

- " Unfortunately, yes...I fear that even the Underworld doesn't have any news either...but those wounds remind me of something...or rather someone " smiled darkly the demon and Ciel kept his curiosity hided by a blank face.

- " Oh? And who could it be? "

- " As far as I can remember, young master, there is variation of demons in my world...and those wounds weren't caused by a human or any sharp tools, but by a demon. An imp, to be more specific "

- " Imp? Like a fairy? " mumbled Ciel.

- " Yes. Imps are usually small, mischievous demons who are often summoned by witches after making a deal with Satan...In return for performing services, the demon is allowed to feed itself from either his owner's body or a prey they find. The spots where the imp feeds are called `witchmarks`or `the devil's mark` " explained Sebastian.

- " So you're telling me those wounds were caused by an imp? "

- " Exactly, young master "

- " I presume that you know that imp then " smiled slightly Ciel and the demon nodded with a smirk on his own.

- " If I may, my Lord, I think we should pay her a visit..."

Taking a carriage with Sebastian leading the way, they arrived in front of a creepy looking cottage. Before Ciel could enter by the front door, Sebastian placed an arm to stop him for going further. Staring at his butler with a brow raised:

- " There is two people inside...Stay behind me, young master " instructed Sebastian.

The young boy nodded and stood at back while Sebastian opened the door and entered the cottage, Ciel following him next after. At first, the only source of light came from the entrance but Ciel's eye adjusted itself so he could distinguish two silhouettes in the dark. One of them, who seems to be a man, was laying on his back and the other was hunching over him. Ciel gasped in surprise when his butler closed his only eye with one hand.

- " You could have some manner " said Sebastian. " You have visit after all "

- " Hm?? A know you~ " said the demon and Ciel didn't know if it was a boy or girl. The voice was accentuated and hoarse, but something was telling him that it wasn't really a boy.

- " Indeed, we once met...one hundred years ago. Do you remember? "

- " You are the demon who made a contract with my master...How could I forget this day? "

- " Maybe you could use...a more conform form to us? I brought my new master with me and I don't think we want to frightening him " told Sebastian and Ciel swore that he could feel the smirk on his butler's face.

There was a chuckle and Sebastian retracted his hand over Ciel's eye. At the sight, there was only black smoke but it turned slowly to the form of a young girl. The smoke disappeared and let place to a girl who looked like his age with red eyes. At first, she held a blank look on her face but it lightening up when her eyes fell on Sebastian. She giggled and ran straight toward him.

- " Big Brother! " she yelled while enrolling her arms around his butler's neck and Sebastian chuckled. Strangely, Ciel felt slightly jealous of the attention the demon was receiving from the girl.

- " Big...Brother? " said in disbelief Ciel and Sebastian smiled at his master.

- " Oh, we're not really siblings but since the day I met her, she kept calling me like that " he explained and the boy sighed at the girl's antics.

- " So, what's your name? " asked politely Ciel and the girl stared at him with a poker face. Then, she started to smirk deviously, which stunned him for a second.

- " My name is (Y/N), Midget "

At this memory, Ciel's eyebrow twitched by remembering the nickname you used to call him. Fortunately, you say his name instead of this monstrosity. Sebastian entered the room with a chessboard and you stared back at the Earl with a confused expression. Ciel smirked slightly, knowing that he will certainly win another round at his favorite game. Well, the one he was mostly good at. When Sebastian finished placing the pieces at their place, you turned to him with a smile.

- " Thank you, Big Brother! "

The butler smirked before bowing and exited the room. Ciel didn't even realize that he was looking at the demon with an angered look still he turned back to you, who was smiling deviously.

- " Now tell me, what is this game? " you asked.

- " This is chess. First of all, there is 16 pieces in font of you. Each player has one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawn " said Ciel while pointing at the pieces. " You are controlling the white ones and me the black ones. A piece is captured when an attacking piece replaces it on its square... "

- " I guess that my piece is `dead`then " you said and Ciel nodded.

- " More like permanently removed but whatever "

Ciel finished his explanations on how the pieces move and stated that the only way to win, is to checkmate the king. You nodded in understanding with a smile and the young boy blushed slightly.

- " Let's begin "

*TIMESKIP*

Ciel couldn't help but stare in disbelief in front of him. Only a knight and his king were still here on the chess while you have a bishop and your king. Since the beginning of the game, you were smirking and glancing at him with a strange glint in your eyes.

- " How? " he finally asked.

- " Simple. A chessboard is like real life, somewhat. YOUR life, to be clear " you said and stared straight at his only eye. " The knight is like Sebastian, protecting his `king` loyally till the end, but you can't always rely on him "

The young Earl blinked and he saw tears cascading down your cheeks, but you were still smiling.

- " Why are you crying? " he finally asked with a bored tone, but slightly worried.

- " You didn't realize, right? " you hummed.

Ciel looked back at the chessboard and saw that your bishop were aiming straight to his king. Raising a brow, you took the bishop and knocked down the king.

- " You can't do that, you know- "

- " I know I can't, but in real life, yes " you explained. " I'm a demon imp and since the day I was created, never I care so much about someone...You're the first, Ciel Phantomhive ".

You stood up from your seat so you could plant your feet in front of Ciel. You took his shoulders and leaned in. You kissed him and when you took a step back, he had a shocked expression writing on his face. You looked at your feet in embarrassment and you put your bishop next to his king.

- " I want to protect you Ciel...Protect you till the very end " you said and for the first time, Ciel smiled a genius smile.

- " You know you can't make one of your piece protect mine " he taunted and you smirked.

- " Love isn't a rule in chess "

Later that night, Sebastian returned at the office and found him and you sleeping together, hands in hands. The demon smiled at the sight, then his eyes traveled around to room to find the chessboard still on the table. He approached it and saw the white bishop next to the king with the knight. Sebastian took it and observed the white piece.

- " Seem you have another pawn in your game, my Lord...Love is sure isn't a rule in chess and may change your fate till the very end "
