I thought it was a cool idea. I always figured that if mermaids were real, their tails would probably be more like dolphins or porpoises. If they had fish tails, they would be both fish and mammals and that doesn't make any sense from a scientific standpoint. It's a big enough stretch to imagine crossing species, but crossing phylums? Not gonna happen. Aquatic mammals just make more sense.
