Oh gosh, I can't put into words how much I adore this style of art.

If you wouldn't mind me asking, what are your brush settings? 0: It seems pretty standard, and yet...not. xP

Its simply Zedig's square-ish brush [link] which I like alot, on 100% opacity and 93% flow.

Hey, thanks!

Why a square one, though? I see a lot of people seem to prefer this. Any specific reason?

Hmm, I can't speak for others now. Cant really tell.. its really useful for blocking colors in for me, and for painting rocks and such stuff. I just kinda like the shapes and the style it makes. I like to use round-ish brushes too, but its just easier to do such landscapes and quick stuff with a square brush for me.

These are looking good! I see some James Gurney in there. Who else have you been studying?

Thank you! Been doing studies of quite a range of artists this time. Would be Jamie Jones, Kekai Kotaki, Richard Anderson, Jason Juan.. Snow Skadi of which I sadly dont know the real name, "numonquallet" on dA and some more.

Could you explain why you start with rough color areas?? I've seen many good digital artists doing this but I wondered what the reason is and how you work that out afterwards?

Well, that has some reasons. Its simpler to block in colors and have a colored area already before you start doing shapes and such. Also, these were masterstudies. Means I already had the finished image beside me, and I didnt want to go into details, I only wanted to capture the colors and understand how they work together, then doing some rough shapes.
And well, it works cause you overdraw everything anyways, like you would do when painting traditionally. And then you can go into more details. Dont always needs lotsa planning and lines. Hope I could answer your question

Well, you still can do master studies and stuff on your own.
