Description Here we got page 2, and it's where I finally start establishing the other side of the romantic couple in this comic. Again, this was meant to be for a zine collaboration, about lesbian romantic couples from anthropomorphic bugs and fish, but in this comic, I took my time introducing the characters apart of the couple. This wasn't something that anyone else in the zine did, and the reason that I did was because I wasn't necessarily confident in my ability to pull off a romance story at the time. I tried to approach this story at a different angle, by focusing on the atmosphere, rather than direct romance. I knew how to do that more at the time, but if I were to do it again, I'd try to incorporate more direct romance, rather than implying it.

So, Lang Cidae, the daddy long legs spider. The reason I chose that spider was to, as described last time, play with the "big person and little person" dynamic that I love to use. Now, the design of the spider, I wanted to show that they were a daddy long legs by making the character extremely tall and lanky. I tried to show a bit off personality from the way the spider stands, and their facial expressions, and that goes for the other figures in the other panels. The one spider character that is shown throughout the panels of this page, I never really had a name for, and isn't meant to be an important character, but I still tried to give some clues as to who he is, through the facial expressions and actions/posing. I intended for an announcer type of character, for the various musical performances done by folks on stage, as well as a piano man as support.

The music influence can really be seen through here and beyond. I've liked jazz music for a while, and at the time, I was influenced a lot by the various songs and artists of that genre, that I wanted to make part of this story dedicated to that "jazzy" feeling. That's why Lang even is a singer, because I thought that would be nice, and I liked listening to jazz while I was drawing this. I will say, the later panels do go a bit too far, but I'll talk about it when we get there.

Any panel with a lot of those spider people was a pain to draw. I wanted to make the setting feel very lively and exude that "night life" feel, juxtaposed to the lonely Philly in a corner. I felt that was important to show, since I didn't have the luxury of narration or dialogue. Detail was also important to me, and spatial awareness of where people are or are going to me makes the scene feel even more alive. However, that made is a lot more annoying to draw in the future, since I had to keep track of about 12 different figures, each with different designs and "personalities" to remember. This can be seen as early as this first panel, which to me isn't as good as the panel from the first page. This bothers me a lot more now than it did before, but maybe its just me who really cares.

Page 3 is where things start to shift, and I kind of "cheat" with my no words rule. Kind of.
