Description Since 'errybody's been up on the modernized 1911 bandwagon and I've been meaning to do this for months I might as well go for it. On top of that is the depressing deviation from the original the "modernized" ones have been doing lately, needed a proper one thrown in there.

For the low-low price of free you could have your very own request done. Just note with a detailed description, sketch, or link to a weapon that needs shoopin'. No real or preset weapons. The more interesting and realistic the better.

This version (a hybrid of an M1911A4 and A5) of the classic M1911 platform is chambered in .40/30 AutoMag +P[10.3x30mm] OHC (Offensive Handgun Cartridge, an overpressure version of the M40's round) or, of course .45 ACP +P, loading via double-stack magazine. It is fitted with a match grade polygonal barrel, Light Double Action trigger, and tritium/fiber optic iron sights. Integrated features also include a light rail mount, ambidextrous safety, and enhanced recoil springs.

Marine MEB(SOC) and MSFT "misfits" personnel can request the M1911A4/5 as an alternative to the standard MK-25 Mod1 10mm handgun. It is not uncommon to find Grayson slides with patent marking dating from April 20th 1897 to January 5th 2285. While the 10.3mm OHC round has a negligibly larger diameter to the 10mm APC, it user a much heavier bullet and half again higher operating pressure. For the most part, the weapon is used only as a display item and status symbol and, on rare occasion, to preform the Corps' dirtier business. In combat the -A4/5 has served rather well despite its strong recoil, which, even with civilian loads, is compared to that of large bore magnums commonly associated with heavy frame revolvers.

100% GIMP 2.8 default brushes, no outside resources. Sorta a WiP, cranked out a little too quickly because of dieing computer, I may fix it up at some point.

As a personal note, I'd never trust my life with anything under 10mm+P, only exceptions being .357Magnum (ideally +P).

Beautiful artwork! Now, my personal reactions to the thing you've dreamt up.

10mm Auto DOUBLE STACKED!? That's 10x25mm -- that is a BEAST! Imagine trying to wrestle with carrying, gripping, and controlling that for real.

Personally, I opt for controlability and capacity over raw hit-per-hit power. Not much point in a weapon is it's a bitch to use and you only get a very limited number of shots between reloads. Sure, I could kill a Grizzly Bear with a 10mm pistol, but what about dealing with two-legged predators who come typically in pairs and trios and carry guns of their own? Even if I were in a situation where I anticipated perhaps having a need to engage with a large, dangerous animal, I would be carrying a shoulder arm like a 7.62x39 AK, or an SKS, or a 12ga shotgun with 00 buckshot and 3-inch slugs, or a Mosin-Nagant. Now, about criminals and high power handguns, you perhaps get a savage initial hit on the first guy, but what about getting a second hit if he doesn't desist? What about moving to engage the second, third, or even fourth threat, and hitting each in term rapidly with fight-ending attacks? In a tight scenario, can you control the weight and the recoil? Will you limp wrist or otherwise induce a malfunction? What about your aim getting messed up by trying to wrangle a big, heavy, recoiling weapon in suboptimal conditions?

My personal picks for defensive calibers are 7.62x25, 380ACP, 9x18, 9x19, .40S&W, with 9x19 being my most recommended for a number of reasons.

1.Β 9x19-chambered pistols win in capacity over just about all others, except for when trying to be as small as a 380 or a 9x18, or a rather large .40S&W.Β
2. 9x19 has proven lethality, and in aggregated statistics, 9x19 normally takes 2-3 shots to force an incapacitation, and succeeds in incapacitation inΒ >85% of uses.
3. "Calibers starting with 4" (10-11mm) Perform roughly indentically to 9x19, whatever the bullet type -- doctors can't tell the difference.
4. 9x19 meets penetration standards with both hardball and expanding ammunition.
5. One-shot-stop and stopping power are buzzwords which have little to do with the reality of handgun performance. especially when considering and defensive shoot-till-it-stops techniques.
6. Normal observed behavior in gunfights is to fire as many rounds as rapidly as possible, which favors high capacity and high controlability.
7. 9x19 has a full 114 years and counting of proven global service. The 380 is the next oldest, with 107 years of service. .45ACP has 111 years of service.
8. Energy transfer as a wounding mechanism in handguns is insignificant.
9. More hits on target is always better.
10. 9x19 and its weapons are affordable and ubiquitous.
11. Anyone who can shoot a big bore handgun can shoot a smaller bore handgun better.
12. All the rounds I favor are primarily for semiautomatic pistols, which enable improved concealment, higher capacity, and quicker reloads over revolvers.

"As a personal note, I'd never trust my life with anything under 10mm+P, only exceptions being .357Magnum (ideally +P)."

O.O

I personally wouldn't carry a 10mm Auto; I'd prefer something more available, economical, and use-friendly. Considering that there is very large number of such cartridges which are still plenty lethal, I wouldn't bother with trying to wrestle with fighting with a cartridge whose downfall came about from too energetic to control and requiring handguns too large for many people to contend with, in addition to being all-around expensive to platform and shoot.
.357 Magnum is a good round, and indeed a scientifically proven stopper. My one gripe with it is that it is a revolver cartridge.

Nice drawing. I think I'll look through some of your other works and probably pontificate about them.

A very good and insightful comment, thank you.

I will note that this is not chambred in 10x25 Auto, rather it is in 10.3x30mm +P "Auto Mag", a fictional cartridge. It's in the description that this weapon is grouped with heavy framed revolvers, rather than normal automatic handguns.

As well, it is marked with patten stamps from 1897-2285 and is an alternative to standard issue sidearms for Marine special forces. While there are light and reasonable weapons available, this is the end-all "fuck off stick" for those who need to crack through the helmets of alien monsters when their battle rifles click empty.

In short, it wasn't meant to be reasonable, it's meant to execute deserters and aliens.

awesome, looks like the natural evolution of the MEU (SOC) pistol. Have you heard of the .450 SMC cartridge? I'm planning on building a MEU style double stack similar to this in that caliber, cheack it out.Β

I don't do commissions. All requests are free, it just takes me a while to get around to them due to real-world stuff. I currently have one request underway, but I may be able to get to yours within the next two weeks. Cheers -SNS

When I first saw this on the home page, I was wondering "why did someone take a picture of a gun, and post it on DA?" then I clicked the thumbnail, and even then, it took me a minute to realize. Very nice work!
