Description Ah, from the same day as He Is King.
This was before deciding he wanted to be a pinto. Actually, more like during the process.

Ditto to what everyone else has said - this shot is wonderful!!

Grey's always seem to enjoy rolling in the mud.

Thank you, and for the most part, he likes keep himself clean. Which is really weird, since the other greys we own just enjoy the dirt and mud that they find.

Well that has to be good then - him keeping himself clean. We have a grey mare at work who lives in a paddock and spends all her time in the mud. When its warmer weather, she climbs into her trough (as best she can - obviously she doesn't fit) and gets wet then rolls in the dirt to keep cool. Funny creatures.

Well, they are smart enough to figure out ways to cool themselves off. So I figure you can't really get mad at them for trying to be content.
And I've actually never heard of a horse doing that. But I also live where hot really isn't that hot -rather, it's muggy.

Yeah, even if it means they get grubby.

Where I live the climate is extremely dry, and for the summer months it gets to 40-44C so the horses find ways into their troughs. The troughs we have are round, about 1.2m round and 0.8m deep. They love it

That's nice. Ours just hide under trees or get rained on. Which I guess is pretty nice, since it cools off a lot when it rains.
I just love horses, how goofy they are mostly.

Agreed. They can be quite hilarious. One of the horses I work with likes to lick clothing. Gross but hilarious. She comes up for a pat, cuddles, and looks all innocent, then before you know it she's licking your shoulder. Weirdo!!!

That's so weird! I've never heard of a horse doing that, although my mom's old horse would play with the zipper on like shirts and jackets when she was in her teens.

Ha ha, some horses are just weird. She's in her mid teens we think - we can only tell from her teeth. We don't have any history on her other than that.

somethingxother In reply to ijanel [2010-10-14 14:46:43 +0000 UTC]

That's true, and the mid-teens ones are the best, because they aren't quite as cranky (and sometimes pushy) as the older horses can be, but they're still goofy and comfortable enough while hopefully smart enough to not really get themselves in too much of trouble.

That was the perfect explanation of a teenage horse!!!

Hopefully in the coming months I will be visiting a property belonging to a lady at work, and photographing her horses. I'm a little excited considering otherwise I don't get that many opportunities.

You have every right to be excited! I hope you have fun and that the weather is nice for it too, but I don't really know Australia's weather pattern all that well so maybe it's more likely to be nice during that time of year than here.

Thank you.

We're just heading in to summer here - currently half way through spring. So the weather is getting sunnier and warmer, and things are looking lush and green. Not long before it gets so hot everything goes yellow and dies, so we'll take it while we can!!

That's nice, because we're heading into winter which is a long and grueling process sometimes.

Does it snow where you live?

somethingxother In reply to ijanel [2010-10-21 01:05:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, quite a bit and it freezes and it gets so cold that I'm not looking forward to the walk into classes from the parking lot.

Eeeek! I've never seen snow, so I don't truly understand the cold I get heat mostly, and that sucks!!!

somethingxother In reply to ijanel [2010-10-21 22:20:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I can't even begin to imagine a life without snow, that'd be so weird. And the heat isn't as bad as snow because it gets hard to do normal chores outside when it snows a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ijanel In reply to somethingxother [2010-10-24 03:10:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I think snow would ruin the day more than extreme heat would. Here we just hang out in pools or air conitioning, but it doesn't really affect us in any other way - oh, other than sunburn. Plus you grow up here used to the heat, and just learn to cope.

Maybe one day I'll visit the snow, but I don't know that I'd cope too well

Ah, well, just be sure to bring lots of warm clothes. And I really mean it. And gloves. Do not ever forget those.
Ever.
