Description Marie-André François Poniatowski[1] (1921-1945) - French-American with Polish roots, participant in World War II.

Raised in the memory of his Polish roots, as the great-great-great-grandson of Casimir Poniatowski - the brother of King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stanisław August Poniatowski, and the brother of Andrew Poniatowski, i.e. the father of Marshal of France Józef Poniatowski, Marie-André Poniatowski, with his mother's consent, fled to Great Britain and joined the Polish Armed Forces in the West. Since he did not know Polish, he had to learn it from scratch (he spoke with a pronounced French accent), he also forbade the title of "prince", wanting to be an ordinary frontline soldier.

Left to right:
- soldier of the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment, then of the 3rd Armored Regiment of the 16th Armoured Brigade of the 1st Armoured Division of the Polskie Siły Zbrojne on the Western Front
- commander of Sherman V platoon in the 1st Armored Regiment of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade of the 1st Armoured Division of the Polskie Siły Zbrojne on the Western Front[2]

[1] The Polish transcription of his names is "Maria Andrzej Franciszek". In the Polish Armed Forces in the West, he used his second name Andrzej, which was also the name of his father, an officer in the French Foreign Legion
[2] After the exclusion of the 16th Armored Brigade from the 1st Armored Division, which took place in November 1943, the 3rd Armored Regiment transferred some of its soldiers to the 1st and 2nd Armored Regiments, which, as part of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade, was sent to the front. The crew of Sherman V Second Lieutenant Poniatowski included Sylwester Bardziński (www.deviantart.com/sonthisland… ), Kazimierz Guca, Józef Piskorek and B. Żarków
