Description
Siberian Huskies were bred by the Chukchi people of Siberia originally as both companion dogs and draft animals. During American expansion into Alaska, these dogs began to catch the public eye for their athleticism. The most famous Siberian Husky was a dog named Balto who helped lead a sled team over miles of wintry Alaska terrain to deliver medicine to a town stricken with diphtheria.
What happened to Balto after his heroic trip is just as interesting as the trip itself. (A story for another day), but he lived out his retirement in Cleveland Ohio, and remains preserved and on display in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Siberians usually carry their tails down, I mistakenly drew their tails curled like malamutes. Maybe these dogs are Siberian malamute mixes?
