Description "The Sitcom."

It always bothered me how a lot of professional artists butchered Vader's helmet in comic book adaptations and other promotional materials.

This one was way different in my head than it is now. I knew how the positioning oughta look but had very little idea about the color scheme. I thought of the always classic blue, but also wanted to see how well a mustard-ish yellow would fit in, even though it's probably the least imperial color I can even begin to think of. Then the most predictable red of Vader's lightsaber demanded to be included one way or another, but eventually it invaded the picture with an overwhelming impact. By that point I was certain this was a doomed endeavor - and I should start with a fresh slate. Fortunately, I have learned to go with what may seem like mistakes or cases of bad visual sense at first - to deal with them by deviating from original plans, be flexible and give errors a chance to prove useful. Had everything gone exactly as planned, none of the colors would have mingled the same way they do now, subtlety of tones and values would've been lost, and no discoveries would've been made. It isn't the most usual depiction of the imperial jefe, but hopefully it encourages someone to think of them in a fresh new way.

Watercolor and gouache. 2019. A3.
