"Ah am big enough to buck apples!" Applejack glowered as she lugged the empty wooden basket through the grass with her teeth. Ripened apples hung heavily in the trees around her, gleaming in the October sun. Their bright red skin reminded her of her stupid older brother, who laughed and said she was too small when she demanded to help with this season's applebucking. Big Macintosh hadn't meant to be mean, but his laughter stung nevertheless. She'd show him! She'd just gotten her cutie mark, after all!

After dragging the basket to the base of a tree, the earth pony filly appraised her leafy, apple-laden foe. How hard could this be? She'd seen her brother and grandmother do it a thousand times. Still, Applejack couldn't help but feel intimidated by the solid trunk and hefty boughs that loomed before her. She gulped.

"Get a hold of yourself, AJ! It's only an apple tree." Turning, she positioned her hind legs to kick. "Well, here goes! On three. One, two..."

Applejack is one of the most underrated characters in the show, in my opinion. This is probably because she lacked character development in the latter half of the first season (truly a shame). She did have some great episodes, like Fall Weather Friends, Applebuck Season, and Look Before You Sleep, but for the most part, the opportunity to explore her character was missed. Hopefully, season two will have at least one memorable, emotionally-driven Applejack episode.

With all of the hard work she does, I think she deserves it.
