Soreiya — I want to be of help, but....

Description I'm probably the perfect example of what not to do when it comes to learning art. For some reason I still want to be of help to others even if my skills are not up to par. Perhaps it is because I don't have anyone willing to do it for me... Being told what to do just isn't going to work for me. I need constant help and support otherwise I get depressed and quit trying.

I looked up the game. Now I remember hearing about it a while ago. I think it looks really cool. I mean for a fan game some real effort was put into it.

Is this the character that you were talking about? pokemon-uranium.wikia.com/wiki… I can kind of see the similarity.

I'm a big fan of two toned hair for some reason. I think I gave him too big of a forehead though. >_<

DragonWisper In reply to Soreiya [2012-12-13 03:41:26 +0000 UTC]

No, I think the foreheads good. Maybe if you showed more of the roots at the front it might look more natural.

You draw a lot of full body work. I'm actually afraid of drawing full body drawings. So I think you're a step ahead of me on the road to improvement.

I usually work with Paint tool SAI as well. I do have Photoshop, but I don't really use it.

JashinChan In reply to Soreiya [2012-12-12 17:54:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't understand photoshop that much^^
I use it to make rough sketches^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Soreiya In reply to JashinChan [2012-12-12 17:55:52 +0000 UTC]

SAI is better for sketching. Photoshop doesn't feel as smooth.

JashinChan In reply to Soreiya [2012-12-12 18:32:05 +0000 UTC]

oh I see.
But I heard that the effects in photoshop are better

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Soreiya In reply to JashinChan [2012-12-12 18:47:39 +0000 UTC]

SAI can export PSD's so it doesn't really matter. You can always import to PS if you want to add effects.

Can you tell me how you draw this cool eyes?

tenko72 [2012-08-22 04:02:56 +0000 UTC]

I like his hair and how the forehead is more exposed. It's more usual to see the forehead covered with bangs, because the style makes for huge foreheads.

Soreiya In reply to tenko72 [2012-08-22 04:50:53 +0000 UTC]

I think I tend to draw big foreheads, but I've seen worse.

Soreiya In reply to halfbreedlover [2012-08-18 18:37:41 +0000 UTC]

The only comment I got on it on Gaia is that it's "generic anime". o_O; I've been trying to figure out why originality matters in a coloring video.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

halfbreedlover In reply to Soreiya [2012-08-22 15:54:42 +0000 UTC]

ah, dude that sucks...i dont think it really matters, as long as you like what you're satisfied with yourself and focus on improving, and i dont think its generic >.> i like it a lot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Soreiya In reply to halfbreedlover [2012-08-24 00:34:03 +0000 UTC]

I feel like I at least showed some different ways of doing things that perhaps may give other people ideas on how to use them to a better extent. So style shouldn't really matter at all when it's more about the tools and how they work.

I feel like I could be faster if I had the confidence in really knowing what I was doing. I felt like I fumbled around quite a bit.

This is really nice! The colors are really good and I enjoy the hair a lot. I don't think there is anything you should be embarassed with on a piece like this ^^

Soreiya In reply to Laenri [2012-08-15 08:30:11 +0000 UTC]

It's a bit like being on the spot when I'm recording. I often want to sit and do corrections, but I can't because it would take more time. I actually stopped twice at the end thinking that I was done, but I had to go back and make new videos and then join them together. lmfao

euclidstriangle [2012-08-15 01:58:25 +0000 UTC]

... Not... up to par? You're on our watchlists for a reason, y'know. (Besides, one of the best ways to learn is to teach, I think. You have to learn to articulate what you've learned, and it makes you want to improve yourself that way you can continue to help others. )

I want to pet his hair, btw...

Soreiya In reply to euclidstriangle [2012-08-15 08:33:36 +0000 UTC]

I think I'm a bit better at coloring monsters and such. I have trouble with humanoid characters.

You might be right. Maybe if I make it some sort of goal to be of assistance to those who want it. I may find some way to better myself in the end. The problem is that I have a huge weakspot and that is my anatomy skills. It'd be nice if I could help people with coloring and have some people help me with improving that.

euclidstriangle In reply to Soreiya [2012-08-22 23:55:20 +0000 UTC]

In what way? From what I've seen, your human characters aren't bad. They are highly stylized, which may be an issue if you're trying to branch out from that. I'm not an expert by any means, but is there anything I can help with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Soreiya In reply to euclidstriangle [2012-08-24 00:30:23 +0000 UTC]

Basically I don't draw bodies because I don't have the skills to. So most of my art is just floating heads. I wish I had the confidence to practice, but it usually just effects me even more negatively.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to Soreiya [2012-08-24 02:19:51 +0000 UTC]

*nods* Similar story with backgrounds here... Really, though, the only way we'll get better is to try one thing at a time. One aspect at a time, yeah? You are pretty good at drawing heads. You could draw down to the waist and practice that. Don't even have to bring in hands and arms. Heck, detach those for a bit. They wriggle around and get in the way, anyway, and are generally annoying for a while. You've seen the pics/studies *moni158 does? Kind of like that, only you could add the heads and their fabulous hair, if you like. What do you think?
