Description

In a dwelling, two Shrith are seen indulging in a meal. Unlike humans, who typically sit down when eating, the Shrith stand up when they eat. Instead of eating from dishes, the Shrith tend to have their food on a large mat on the floor, with no Shrith having a single dish to themselves.

Today’s meal consists of a couple fish kebabs, a few thriir pods and “nrovi,” a common food item consisting of leaf-like veggies wrapped in a lightly-spiced tortilla-like roll. Sometimes, nrovi is eaten with a dipping sauce, but many are content to eat it without the sauce.

In all Txemshi “vertebrates,” including the Shrith, the mouth is located between the top and bottom tentacular arms, with the arms responsible for bringing food to the mouth. Because the Shrith have no jaws, food must be broken down first in the gizzard before it can enter the stomach, where the acids begin to further break down the food. In addition, the mouth can expand a little, but not significantly.
