Description

The Shrith male, while a single sex, can be split between two “genders.” These “genders” are mostly influenced by the pheromones released during a Shrith’s adolescence, with the young turning from hermaphrodite to either female or male. Males, though, go through a “secondary puberty,” which determines if they become kithtakols or drones. Kithtakols far outnumber the drones, and act as the hands of the herd, while drones are few in number, and are mostly used for breeding purposes. Because drones are specifically around for breeding, they have an instinctual inclination toward sex, be it reproductive or casual. In fact, casual, non-reproductive sex is one of the ways they keep themselves entertained, and many drones will engage in sex with both the females and other drones.

In many of the societies in the Kiskxa'li Peninsula (the place with some of the most sophisticated, modern nations in the world), drones are seen as property first and individuals second. Because of this, they have little to no rights, and cannot even go outside for a walk without permission from the Queen and being accompanied by a female chaperone. This distinct lack of rights, while horrible, is more easily tolerated by the drones, seeing as how they were taught for all their drone life that they are property and must obey their Queen and female masters.

Drones, like many other Shrith, follow a strict dress code. For the drones, specifically, their attire consists of a blue robe, brown boots and a blue headscarf and veil. The color blue, on a drone, signifies obedience to the herd Queen. The headscarf has little meaning, but the veil expresses the notion that drones are to be seen and not heard, with the veil covering their speaking ports, making it hard to understand them. Essentially a way of taking away their voice.
